While the one and only Incredible Hulk is one of the strongest Avengers in both the Marvel Comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe mythology, he can’t do everything alone. When the going gets tough, sometimes the Hulk needs help and for such a strong hero, he’s going to need some pretty strong allies.

One could certainly claim that most of the heroes of the Marvel universe are allies to Bruce Banner and his alter-ego. His allies in this instance are specifically cornered down to those who have helped him and become close with him in Hulk-centric stories. So, the likes of heroes like Spider-Man wouldn’t necessarily fit the bill, as he’s not a huge part of the not-so-jolly-green-giant’s life. When the going gets tough, even the strongest heroes could use a helping hand.

Dr. Elizabeth “Betty” Ross

Red Harpy

Image via Marvel Comics

Thanks to The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Brave New World, Betty Ross has become generally known as more of a mere love-interest to Bruce Banner. However, as of late, Betty has gone through quite the transformation, which has turned her into a creature known as Red Harpy—a “good” version of her previous antagonistic form known simply as Harpy.

Her flight abilities, claws, talons, and energy blasts allow her to cover Hulk in battle in ways that a lot of other allies can. Her physical strength is mighty, and while it may not be nearly as equal to the Hulk as other allies he has, they’re diverse and dynamic, which makes her strong in a lot of different ways than the rest of the lot.

Amadeus Cho

Brawn & Hulk (temporarily)

Image via Marvel Comics

Due to the nature of comic books in general, Bruce Banner isn’t the only Hulk to exist in the Marvel universe and one of the more recent additions to this roster is Amadeus Cho (recently seen in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man). His Hulk-form wasn’t crafted by accident like the others, though, it was fully intentional—altering his body with nanobots to allow for a form like that to exist.

Amadeus Cho essentially has the powers of the green rage monster, but on a lower scale. So, while he isn’t the most powerful version of the Hulk to exist in the Marvel world, he is still exceedingly powerful and kept his smarts intact (due to the conditions of his superform’s creation). So, not only does he have Hulk strength, but he possesses the genius-level intellect and skill-set of Amaedus Cho. This makes him powerful in ways outside just physical manners.

Richard “Rick” Jones

A-Bomb, Whisperer, Abomination, Sleeper Agent

Image via Marvel Comics

One of Bruce Banner’s closest friends also happens to be the reason he became the Hulk in the first place—thanks to the fact that the scientist saved the young man from the gramma ray that would end up hitting him. This would come to be full circle much later in the timeline, though, when Rick was brought back to the same location and transformed into another Hulk-like creature, A-Bomb, by M.O.D.O.K. and The Leader. He became a blue monster with armor-like skin that rivals the Hulk in strength with no issue.

… Rick was brought back to the same location and transformed into another Hulk-like creature, A-Bomb, by M.O.D.O.K. and The Leader.

He’s been through a few aliases that are super strong. But the only one to act as an ally to the Hulk that rivals in A-Bomb’s strength is his current one in Al Ewing‘s All-New Venom (2025) comic book run, in which he is the host to the symbiote known as Sleeper and becomes the hero, Sleeper Agent. While he hasn’t teamed up with Hulk in this new form, his work as A-Bomb and his other transformations and names make him very powerful as a best friend.

Leonard Samson

Doc Samson & Doc Sasquatch

Image via Marvel Comics

Like Red Harpy, Leonard Samson began his tenure in Hulk’s story as a villain who wanted to steal his gamma energy from him. Afterward, however, he turned around and became not just a superhero, but a psychiatrist for superheroes—a role that isn’t very common in the Marvel universe. His kindness isn’t what makes him so strong as a super-friend, though.

… he turned around and became not just a superhero, but a psychiatrist for superheroes…

While Hulk got most of his gamma radiation back, the portion that was leftover to Samson gave him profound strength that allows him to carry over 70 pounds. When he got into his Sasquatch form after swapping bodies with Walt Langkowski (the original Sasquatch), he got all of his previous abilities that came with the new body, too. He also has telepathic defenses to keep him from any sort of mental attack.

Namor McKenzie

Sub-Mariner & King Namor

Image via Marvel Comics

Hulk doesn’t typically find himself fighting in the water, due to the nature of his stories and villains. So, his allegiance with Namor, through her membership in the The Defenders—a collection of heroes that came together in Marvel Feature #1 (1971). Namor specifically has a unique power set compared to other Hulk allies, being of Atlantean physiology.

Namor, portrayed in the MCU by Tenoch Huerta in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is a new Marvel hero/anti-hero to grace general audiences’ eyes. He’s one of the original Marvel superheroes and, due to this, he’s had many decades to grow and evolve in his strength. He has advanced water powers, like breathing underwater and being overpowered in said liquid, but he can also absorb radiation, electrolocation, telepathy, and even flight.

Doctor Stephen Strange

Doctor Strange

Image via Marvel Comics

While to general audiences, the idea of Doctor Strange and Hulk being close allies may seem foreign—as they’ve never interacted much in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aside from Avengers: Infinity War, they’re actually quite tight in the comic books. While many see The Defenders as a team made up of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, they began as a team of far different heroes and, much like Namor, Doctor Strange was on the original team with the green Avenger.

Doctor Strange’s power is no secret to the world because of his heavy influence in the MCU, but he’s even stronger in the comic books. Being the absolute Master of the Mystic Arts, he’s one of, if not the strongest, magicians in the Marvel universe. Because of their time together on The Defenders, Strange and Banner have a relationship that has led them to help each other out numerous times.

Jennifer Walters

She-Hulk

Image via Marvel Comics

Because she got her powers directly from Bruce Banner himself through an accident, Jennifer Walters is one of the strongest Hulks in the Marvel Comics world. She has some abilities that Hulk does not, which can lead to her being more versatile in battle than the main man himself, at times.

With the skill to be able to change her form whenever she likes, Jen has come to her cousin’s aid multiple times and been able to help in ways the likes of A-Bomb cannot. She has some incredible smarts, too, thanks to her being a lawyer. She’s also a master combatant, making her a more precise fighter than her family member.

Hercules Panhellenios

Known simply as Hercules

Image via DC Comics

When it comes to strength in the Marvel universe, not many heroes, villains, and anti-heroes are much more powerful than gods and god-like figures themselves. The one and only Olympian, Hercules, has had an on-and-off relationship with the heroes of this comic universe. He’s come to Hulk’s aid a few times—most notably when he united with the Renegades in the “World War Hulk” storyline.

He has godlike strength, speed, and stamina; immortality; personal cosmic awareness; and is an expert archer and all-around warrior. This Greek hero is one not to be messed with and almost up to par with Hulk’s own strength. He’s the strongest of the Marvel Olympians and has power unlike any other. MCU fans should get excited about his eventual arrival if Marvel Studios ever follows up on their tease at the end of the credits of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor Odinson

Known simply as Thor

Image via Marvel Studios

While he’s on the Avengers with him, that’s not why Thor is such a close ally of the Hulk. Through their adventures together and the consistently changing power-scaling between the two causing a rivalry, the two Avengers have grown close in the past and come to each other’s calls for help when needed. This relationship is best depicted in movies through Thor: Ragnarok.

The debate about who is stronger is seemingly never-ending, which makes Thor clearly one of the strongest allies of the green Avenger. Their close friendship is built on a strong mutual respect for each other and their strengths. Not only is he powerful, but he works excellently with the Hulk and their team-ups make them seemingly unstoppable.

Norrin Radd

The Silver Surfer

Norrin Radd, aka the Silver Surfer, is one of the few Hulk allies that is far stronger than the hero himself. While it may not seem like a likely team-up, Silver Surfer’s participation on the original The Defenders team allowed them to become good friends. Silver Surfer is known as one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel universe, thanks to his ability to harness the Power Cosmic.

He’s also one of the few allies of the Hulk that has a deep and profound respect for Bruce Banner, as well. He doesn’t just see Hulk as a super-ally, but loves the man inside too. He’s considered to be an Alpha-Plus threat among the characters of the comic universe and the Nova Corps even see him as a potential Universe-Level threat.
