Summary

Kang the Conqueror is set to become the next major villain in the MCU’s Phase 5 and Phase 6 projects, with his impact on the multiverse being greater than Thanos’. Currently, it’s too early to determine if Kang will surpass Thanos as the ultimate villain, as his story is still unfolding in upcoming movies and TV shows. The MCU is making a strong case for Kang being a formidable opponent for the Avengers and the multiverse, and he may be the reason for a potential soft reboot in the franchise after The Multiverse Saga.

Thanos and Kang the Conqueror become the most dangerous duo in new Marvel Cinematic Universe fan art. While Thanos was the most game-changing villain in the entire MCU, Marvel Studios have been trying to outdo themselves in The Multiverse Saga with Jonathan Majors’ Kang. Phase 5 is currently focusing more on Kang than ever, with Loki season 2 being in the midst of exploring his latest variant, Victor Timely.

Kang’s story is far from over, though, as there are still plenty of upcoming Phase 5 and Phase 6 projects coming before the major Avengers movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which appear set to show the main crux of his MCU story. While they may never get a chance to meet on screen, ParticleParty1 shared on Reddit new MCU fan art that shows off Kang and Thanos as the major antagonists of the franchise for their respective sagas.

While the Thanos of Earth-199999 was defeated and killed off in Avengers: Endgame, there are technically other Thanos variants out in the multiverse. Whether it would be for What If…? season 2 or another MCU project, it would definitely be an interesting showdown if Kang and alternative Thanos were ever to have a showdown.

While Thanos was the biggest deal to ever happen to the MCU, it’s key to remember that he affected only one universe, while Kang is looking to impact the entire multiverse. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania was a good demonstration of how simply one Kang variant can be dangerous. The post-credits scene brings that point to a new level when they showed the audience an endless amount of Kang variants, foreshadowing how intense things will get for the MCU in upcoming movies and TV shows.

At this point, it is too soon to tell whether or not Kang will be a superior villain to Thanos because he has only been involved with Loki and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Once Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars have happened, it will be easier to determine how the mainstream audience responds to Kang when comparing him to Thanos. With that in mind, if it is true that the MCU is going for a soft reboot after The Multiverse Saga, Kang may be the reason why that will happen, which would make him the ultimate enemy of the franchise.

It was always going to be a challenge for the MCU to top Thanos, whether they went with Kang or other major Marvel villains like Galactus or Doctor Doom. But for the time being, the MCU is slowly making a powerful case for Kang being a worthy opponent for the Avengers and the multiverse as a whole. With Loki season 2 and other MCU projects, time will tell what Marvel Studios has in store for the audience when it comes to Kang’s ultimate endgame.
