Marvel has announced that it has teamed up with Macy’s to bring Spider-Man back for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. An all-new Spider-Man balloon will make its debut during this year’s festivities.

Marvel’s press release announcing Spider-Man’s return to the iconic Thanksgiving parade revealed that the new balloon will be inspired by the art style of the late comic book legend John Romita Sr. The new balloon will mark the first time in a decade since Spider-Man was last seen in the legendary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, with Marvel saying Peter Parker‘s return celebrates both Marvel and Spider-Man’s roots in New York. The 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thursday, Nov. 28 in the United States on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

Director Ridley Scott to Release Three Brand-New Series

Ridley Scott’s company Scott Free teams up with Mechanical Cake to release three new graphic novels: Modville, Hyde and Nick.

“Ever since Marvel Comics #1 hit stands in 1939, Marvel’s home has always been New York. So when the opportunity to work with Macy’s came about to bring one of our most iconic characters back to one of the most emblematic events of New York City, we knew this was the perfect fit for Spidey and our brand’s legacy,” said Chris Fondacaro, Head of Marvel Franchise in Marvel’s announcement. “We’re absolutely thrilled to celebrate our roots and our fans while honoring one of the most indelible comic book creators from Marvel Comics: John Romita Sr.”

With their announcement that Spider-Man would return to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Marvel also gave fans a sneak peek at what the new balloon would look like. The costume Spider-Man wears is inspired by the art of John Romita Sr.’s art and creative vision for the character. Romita joined Marvel in 1965 and, a year later, was chosen by Stan Lee to be the new artist for Amazing Spider-Man following Steve Ditko’s departure. Romita went on to create some of the most widely known and definitive Spider-Man eras, and within a year of him becoming Amazing Spider-Man‘s artist, the title became Marvel’s top-seller. Romita passed away in 2023 at the age of 93.
