One of Spider-Man’s strangest enemies is back in the spotlight. This time, however, the Living Brain needs Spider-Man’s help, and the proverbial clock is already ticking.
Deep within the deepest recesses of Oscorp, Doctor Curt Connors and his team are startled to discover an analog signal somehow escaping their carefully crafted confines. Introduced in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s story “The Terrible Threat of the Living Brain!” from the pages of 1963’s Amazing Spider-Man #8, the Living Brain is a super-intelligent robot developed by one Doctor Petty. When the Living Brain was exhibited at Midtown High School, it was damaged during an attempted robbery, leading it to rampage throughout the school before being stopped by Spider-Man.
In more recent years, the Living Brain has played a key role in numerous unexpected storylines. Not only was it rebuilt and repurposed into a member of the Sinister Six but it also became the temporary home for the conscience of the supervillain team’s founder – Doctor Octopus. This version of the Living Brain was ultimately destroyed by Doc Ock, though another would be rebuilt not long after by the villain’s longtime romantic interest, Anna Maria Marconi.
Carnage is Already Plotting Against a Returning Marvel Agent
One of Marvel Comics’ great agents returns, however, he may not last long if the lethal symbiote Carnage follows through with its plans.
During Zeb Wells and Ed McGuinness’ opening story to 2022’s Amazing Spider-Man #6, the Living Brain assumed a new, more evolved form as the Ultra Living Brain. By remotely manufacturing a synthezoid body of its own, the Ultra Living Brain was able to step out into the world for the first time in decades as a fully autonomous being. Following yet another disastrous encounter with the Sinister Six, the Ultra Living Brain was disconnected from all other machines and sequestered deep within Oscorp where it could be monitored by a specialized team of scientists led by the former Lizard, Doctor Curt Connors.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics’ most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man’s most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character’s lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O’Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he’s changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
