The mantle of the Unstoppable Juggernaut has passed through a few different hands since Cain Marko’s debut as the first of his kind in the pages of 1965’s X-Men #12 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Alex Toth. Drawing his power from the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak and its namesake demonic god, the Juggernaut is impossibly strong and infinitely more resilient. Over the years, the Juggernaut has cemented his place in the annals of Marvel Comics as one of the greatest villains of multiple eras, all while leaving the door open for his eventual shift towards a more heroic comic book career.
From the moment that Marvel Comics’ “Eight Deaths of Spider-Man” event began, the Juggernaut heard the call of Cyttorak and knew that something terrifying was on its way. This event revolves around a mystic covenant between Cyttorak and the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, which itself consists of a series of battles between the Scions of Cyttorak and Earth’s chosen champion. Usually, it would be Doctor Strange who fights those battles, yet with Doctor Doom having taken the title of Sorcerer Supreme with no intention of fighting for it, Peter Parker was chosen to serve as Earth’s champion instead.
Marvel Finally Reveals Why Professor X Broke Out of Prison – And It’s Heartbreaking
The truth behind Charles Xavier’s new mission has finally been revealed, and there might not be any stopping him from seeing it through.
Tragically, Peter Parker’s last battle with a Scion of Cyttorak left him completely broken in both mind and spirit, so much so that he walked away from being Spider-Man altogether. As such, the covenant he had been drawn into was broken, paving the way for the interdimensional horror known as the Blight to encroach upon the primary Marvel Universe. This reality and time-consuming infection is just the first symptom of an even more malevolent force to come, one which had chosen Callix as its living herald on Earth. Fortunately, the Juggernaut not only showed up to try and stave off that threat, he learned that his power makes him completely immune to the Blight and its influence, giving at least one hero the edge they need to hold firm on the battlefield.
