Marvel Comics has rocked the comic book world, once again, with a revelation that few saw coming. After weeks of speculation as to who the new host of the Venom symbiote is, the publisher has confirmed it in issue #5 of All-New Venom. Speculation had mentioned Luke Cage, Madame Masque, Rick Jones, or Robbie Robertson, but in the end it is none of them.
Who is Venom’s new host (SPOILERS)?
All-New Venom #5, written by Al Ewing with art by Carlos Gomez, finally revealed the identity of the symbiote, taking everyone by surprise: Mary Jane Watson is the new Venom. In recent statements, Ewing explained that the intention was always to build a solid mystery, using false clues to keep the suspense up until the last moment.

“We hooked readers in with the big mystery – albeit with a little misdirection thrown in – but now the cat’s out of the bag,” said Ewing. “We can really get into the unlikely interaction of MJ and Venom. Unlike previous hosts, these two aren’t together by choice, but their odd-couple energy makes for a bubbling pot of old-school soap opera thrills. If you’ve enjoyed this lighter take on Venom, there’s a lot more on the way — as well as some darker directions to come.”
The future of Venom
Marvel released several variant covers hinting at the identity of the new host before the official reveal. Now, the big unknown is how this stage will unfold for Mary Jane and what impact it will have on the Arachnid universe.

This change comes at a key moment in the continuity of the comics. Currently, Mary Jane is separated from Peter Parker and has a relationship with Paul Rabin, which could create situations of high narrative impact, including possible confrontations between the characters.
Fans’ reactions to Mary Jane’s transformation into Venom have been divided. While some commend Marvel’s bravery in venturing into new territory, others are wary of this metamorphosis of a character so deeply embedded in the Spider-Man mythology.
