Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are two of the most popular Avengers of all time. They also have a high profile, thanks to their appearances in theMCU and Fox X-Men movies. Now, Marvel Comics has confirmed the twin heroes are making their debut in the new Ultimate Universe.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will make their first appearance in the new universe in The Ultimates #14. Written by Deniz Camp, with art by Juan Frigeri, the issue will find The Ultimates trying to destroy a Hellfire Club stronghold. It is said that “a dangerous pair of twins” will complicate matters. It is unclear from this description if they will be defending the Hellfire Club or trying to destroy it on their own terms. Either option is likely given their history as vigilantes on both sides of the law.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were both introduced in 1964’s X-Men #4, as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. However, the twins were far from evil. Indeed, they only joined the team to pay a debt to Magneto. They soon abandoned him and joined The Avengers to redeem themselves in 1965’s The Avengers #16.
The twins were later established as Magneto’s long-lost children. However, in 2015, they were retconned as not being his children and not being Mutants. This was a legal shenanigan that allowed them to be used in the MCU, at a time when Fox owned the film rights to all Marvel’s Mutant characters. (Despite this, a Mutant version of Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters, appeared in several X-Men movies.) As of 2025, the comic Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are still not considered Mutants, but do view Magneto as their foster father.

The original Ultimate Universe had a variant version of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. These versions became infamous for an incestuous romance subplot that disturbed many fans of the classic comics. Given that, it seems unlikely this storyline will be repeated in the new Ultimate Universe.
The Ultimates #14 arrives in comic shops everywhere on July 30, 2025.
