Whatever else Anna “Rogue” Marie may be, she is a survivor. Nothing exemplified this better than the months she spent in the Savage Land without her powers, before rejoining the X-Men. The story of how this happened is finally revealed in Rogue: The Savage Land #1.

Written by Tim Seeley, with art by Zulema Scotto Lavina, the opening pages of Rogue: The Savage Land #1 recap the story so far. It is explained just how she was stranded in the famous land before time. More, these pages reveal just how the hero came to acquire the training that allowed her to survive there.

Anna Marie’s time in the Savage Land was made famous by a series of pin-ups in the 1990s. One of these was the last thing Jim Lee produced before leaving Marvel to help found Image Comics. Ironically, despite this “savage Rogue” being popular with artists and cosplayers today, the comics of the time barely touch upon her adventures in the lost world.

Rogue originally lost the powers she stole from Ms. Marvel and was transported to the Savage Land in Uncanny X-Men #269. She would not appear again until several months later, in Uncanny X-Men #274. Here, she was already allied with Magneto and Ka-Zar, in a battle to save the Savage Land. She later returned to the United States, with the help of Nick Fury, in Uncanny X-Men #275. Until now, no story has explored the time between Anna Marie’s arrival in the Savage Land and her teaming with Magneto.

Rogue: The Savage Land #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 15, 2025.
