Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom gets imagined with a comic book-accurate look in new Marvel Cinematic Universe fan art. Downey is the most important actor in the MCU, and when Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame, it seemed like that was the end for him in the franchise. However, RDJ is now back for at least two more upcoming MCU movies, with the star giving life to Doctor Doom — confirmed to be the classic Victor von Doom version of the character — in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. New fan art shows how good Downey could look as Doom.

On Instagram, @dope_edits_de shared a peek at what Robert Downey Jr. could look like as the MCU’s Doctor Doom.

While the actor came out onstage at San Diego Comic-Con wearing a Doctor Doom costume, the fan art gives a better look at how RDJ’s casting could work out onscreen. Downey gets a comics-accurate suit and has the scarred face of the Marvel Comics character to complete the look. With the franchise facing issues in the Multiverse Saga, getting Doctor Doom right is a must, and casting the star of some of the MCU’s best movies is fitting for the role.

What The Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom Art Means

The MCU Veteran Is A Perfect Fit For The Villain

While the RDJ Doctor Doom art is not official, it gives a good idea of what Downey could look like as the MCU’s Doctor Doom. Ever since he was announced for the role, some fans have been worried that it would mean Marvel would change a key aspect of Doom. Given how famous Downey is, many believe that the villain would not get to wear his iconic mask as much nor have a scarred face as he does in the comics. However, the new Doctor Doom fan art shows the latter could work in the Avengers movies.

Robert Downey Jr. is back in the MCU, playing Doctor Doom, and many MCU stars, like Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, have reacted to the shocking news.

The fan art gives Downey a scarred face as Doctor Doom while still keeping the actor recognizable in the role. For someone of RDJ’s star power, that is perfect. It would repeat what Marvel and Netflix did before in The Defenders Saga. Instead of making Ben Barnes unrecognizable as Jigsaw in The Punisher, the actor had a scarred face but still looked mostly like he normally does. This way, the MCU could make Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom comic book accurate while not deviating too much from his appearance.

Our Thoughts On The Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom Art

The Multiverse Saga’s Main Villain Looks Great

The Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom fan art shows just how fitting of a pick the star is for the role. Acting-wise, I don’t think it has ever been in question that Downey has what it takes to bring the most complex Marvel Comics villain to life in the MCU. The fan art helps me see the visual potential of the casting, as Downey could be as striking as the comics’ Doctor Doom. I hope that his final design will resemble that of the art, with the scarred face and full costume, making the MCU’s Doctor Doom look perfect.
