Warning: contains spoilers for X-Force #2!
Reed Richards is acknowledged as a genius in the Marvel Universe, but this reputation just took a serious hit with the revelation that one hero’s tech is 800 years more advanced. In a preview for X-Force #2, the team tries to infiltrate Wakanda, the home of the Black Panther. Despite X-Force’s vast resources, they do not have an easy go at it, leading to a stunning revelation about Wakanda’s technology.
X-Force #2 is written by Geoffrey Thorne and drawn by Marcus To. X-Force has covertly entered Wakanda, where Sage finds herself fighting for dear life against the nation’s defenses. Reuniting with X-Force, Sage expresses doubt over infiltrating Wakanda, saying their technology was “minimally, eight hundred years ahead of the best of the rest of humanity.”
Sage then specifically mentions Wakanda outpaces both Tony Stark and Reed Richards in terms of scientific developments, with an extra emphasis on Richards.
Wakanda Is a One of a Kind Place in the Marvel Universe
Wakanda Is Farther Along Technologically Than Any Other Country, Or Individual
Wakanda occupies a unique spot in the Marvel Universe. Wakanda is undeniably the most technologically advanced nation on Earth, and it is largely thanks to the country’s vast reserves of the rare element Vibranium. With the Vibranium, Wakanda was able to withstand the horrors visited upon the African continent during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade era. This allowed the nation’s inhabitants to develop highly advanced technology, which they used to keep hidden from the world. Wakanda has ended its isolationist stance in recent years, as well as transitioning away from a monarchy.
Wakanda, by Sage’s reckoning, is 800 years ahead of the work other geniuses and countries are doing–and that number only applies to significantly developed nations and individuals, including Iron Man and Reed Richards.
It was well known that Wakanda was more advanced scientifically than other nations, but the preview for X-Force #2 gives a jaw-dropping estimate of just how far along they really are. Wakanda, by Sage’s reckoning, is 800 years ahead of the work other geniuses and countries are doing–and that number only applies to significantly developed nations and individuals, including Iron Man and Reed Richards. When put up against the rest of the world, Wakanda is easily a millennium ahead, and infiltrating the country is proving difficult, even for a super genius such as Sage.
Reed Richards is No Longer Marvel’s Biggest Genius
Wakanda Outpaces Reed Richards
Wakanda’s technology is giving Sage a fuss, but it might prove daunting even for Reed Richards–which could deal a serious blow to both his reputation and his ego. When people in the Marvel Universe say “genius,” they usually mean Reed Richards. Earth is home to great scientific minds, such as Tony Stark, Hank Pym and Riri Williams, but Reed Richards stands above them. Reed Richards fancies himself a scientist and explorer, capable of doing seemingly impossible feats, but Wakanda outperforms him considerably on several fronts, forcing Marvel to reevaluate his status as the publisher’s “super genius.”
