Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Alien vs Avengers #2! David 8 (or simply David) is the main antagonist of the Alien prequel films, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and he’s since gone multiversal, which is what fans are currently witnessing with his rampage across the Marvel Comics Universe in Alien vs Avengers. This crossover series presents David as more than just a sinister threat to anyone who crosses him, but a legitimate scourge on the entire multiverse. And the scariest part? David could do the same in the Alien movies.
In Alien vs Avengers #2 by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, readers are shown exactly how the Xenomorph infestation of the Marvel Universe came to be. In the first issue, a number of pods sent by unknown synthetics carrying Xenomorph Queens crashed on Earth, and within only a few years, the Xenomorphs had successfully conquered the planet – taking down even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes themselves, the Avengers. Now, with the release of the second issue in this limited series, readers know that David is the synthetic responsible. Not some Marvel Universe variant of David, the original David from Prometheus.
This comic opens with the familiar scene of David obliterating the Engineer’s homeworld with the Black Goo payload. David did the same thing in Alien: Covenant, but here, he’s not alone, as David created two more identical David synthetics to join him. While fans of Alien: Covenant know what happens to David next, things take a dramatic turn in this comic. Rather than being stranded on Paradise until being found by the Covenant, David and his duplicates proceed with the reverse-engineering of the Xenomorph species, and use them to wipe out all life in the Alien Universe.
David Eliminates All Living Organisms in the Alien Universe, & He’s Doing the Same to Marvel
Soon after eliminating all organic life in his home universe, David and his duplicates discover the secrets of multiversal travel. With an entire universe of technology at their disposal, the Davids take to the multiverse with the goal of ‘cleansing’ it of all life just as they did in the Alien Universe – and one of their stops is the Marvel Universe.
David is the greatest threat the Marvel multiverse has seen in some time.
As any Marvel fan knows, the Marvel Universe isn’t just one universe, but an expansive multiverse of continuities that characters regularly jump back and forth between. The newly established Ultimate Universe is a prime example of this, as the Maker (originally from Earth-1610) jumped from Earth-616 to Earth-6160 to reshape it to his liking, drastically impacting the entire history of a whole universe. That’s how interconnected the Marvel multiverse is. So, with David infiltrating – and effectively conquering – one of them, he has access to all of them, making him the greatest threat the Marvel multiverse has seen in some time.
It is true that Iron Man is able to take down one of the David synthetics in this very issue of Alien vs Avengers (and Black Panther took down other synthetics in #1). However, the very fact that David was able to create more of himself during the events of Alien: Covenant proves that there could be countless duplicates, especially after more than 1000 years of universal conquest under his belt. That means David is still very much a problem for the Marvel multiverse, as there is no telling which ‘Earth’ will be targeted by the mad synthetic’s Xenomorphs next.

While Alien vs Avengers deviates greatly from the continuity of the established Alien Universe (even before David travels to the Marvel Universe), the two have one major thing in common: David is still at large. Remember, David survived Alien: Covenant. Not just that, he came out of the prequels utterly victorious, with an entire colony of humans to impregnate with his own engineered strain of the Xenomorph species (known as the Praetomorph).
In Alien vs Avengers, David uses his Xenomorphs to wipe out all life in the universe, allowing synthetics to reign supreme. Could he be doing the same thing in Alien? At this point, there’s really nothing that can stop him. Sure, David’s story ended with Alien: Covenant (as the franchise went in a different direction with Alien: Romulus), but that doesn’t mean he’s not scheming in the background. In fact, Alien vs Avengers could be teasing what David is planning to do in the Alien movies, as this crossover comic is showing the extent of the horrors he can unleash.
