Emmy-winning actor Michael Chiklis, who played Ben Grimm/ The Thing in Sony’s original Fantastic Four movies, confirmed that Marvel Studios has already found the actor who’ll take on the mantle of The Thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On his X account, after denying reports about his rumored appearance in Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming Deadpool 3, Chiklis revealed that he already knows who will be playing Ben Grimm/ The Thing in Marvel Studios’ long-awaited Fantastic Four movie, teasing that he’s a fan of this actor. “FYI folks… This is a FAKE. Sorry to disappoint. So many people have asked about it, I feel it’s necessary to clear this up,” Chiklis wrote. “I do know who they’re casting though. Not my place to tell but I will say this. I’m a fan of his work and I wish him luck and success with it.”

Daredevil: Born Again welcomes a new cast member who will be joining Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/ Daredevil in the upcoming Marvel Studios series.
Ben Grimm/ The Thing was created by comic book legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961. In the comics, he was introduced as one of the founding members of the Fantastic Four. Just like the rest of the team, he acquired his powers through accidentally getting exposed to cosmic radiation. However, unlike Reed, Sue and Johnny, Ben’s mutation transformed his physical appearance into a huge rock-like monster, which allowed him to have super strength and indestructibility.
The Thing was first played by Michael Bailey Smith and Carl Ciarfalio in the 1994’s live-action film adaptation. They were succeeded by Chiklis, who appeared in the 2005 version and in 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer. In 2015, Sony once again released a Fantastic Four reboot, with Jamie Bell playing the superhero. At the time of writing, Marvel Studios had yet to make any announcement regarding its official Fantastic Four cast, but recent rumors point out that The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach might be the studio’s top choice for the MCU’s The Thing.

Last Nov. 15, multiple outlets revealed that The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal was in negotiations for one of the leading roles in the Fantastic Four movie. At the moment, it remains unclear if Pascal’s Reed Richards/ Mister Fantastic casting has been finalized, but a previous report suggested that The Last of Us actor may have dropped out from a major horror project to potentially clear his busy schedule for the impending production start of the MCU reboot. The leader of the titular family, who was formerly played by Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, and John Krasinski in different Marvel film franchises.
Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay being rewritten by Josh Friedman, based on Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer’s latest draft. In a previous interview, Shakman confirmed that official casting announcements will not happen immediately after the actors’ strike. “The fact that there is so much debate, I love it,” he said. “I have been thinking about who should play these characters before I had the job to direct the movie, and I understand why everybody would be thinking in the same way.”
The MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot debuts in theaters on May 2, 2025.
