One Of The MCU’s Newest Powerhouses Proved His Comedy Chops In This Trending Netflix Film

This actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may have had his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but his 2013 comedy movie is now trending on Netflix. The Guardians of the Galaxy 3 cast saw the return of many fan-favorite MCU characters, including leading characters Star Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), and Rocket (Bradley Cooper), among others, but there were also brand-new faces. Among the new additions to the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was Will Poulter, who played Adam Warlock in the movie.

The MCU’s Adam Warlock proved interesting, in part because there were several differences compared to Adam Warlock in the comics. At present, it’s unclear what Adam Warlock’s MCU future could look like, which raises questions about Poulter’s continued role in the franchise. However, Will Poulter has been in a number of other movies, and one, We’re The Millers, is now trending on Netflix, despite being more than a decade old.

Will Poulter has certainly become more prominent over the years, with roles such as Chef Luca in the hit show The Bear, Mark in Midsommar, and Gally in The Maze Runner, all in addition to his role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Before those roles, though, Poulter played Kenny Rossmore in We’re The Millers, one of the four main characters in the comedy movie. Prior to his performance as Kenny, Poulter hadn’t had many major roles.

Among his prior projects were Wild Bill, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and School of Comedy. We’re The Millers was therefore a breakout role for Will Poulter, and it was a significant one. In addition to Poulter playing a major character in the movie, he got to show off his comedic acting chops, and comedy proved to be an area in which he shines. Poulter also acted opposite some massive stars in We’re The Millers, including Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Ed Helms.

Although The Movies Are Quite Different, Poulter’s Roles Are Similar

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and We’re The Millers may seem quite different—and, in terms of their larger stories, they are—but Will Poulter’s characters in the movies have some interesting similarities. In We’re The Millers, Poulter’s Kenny is an awkward teenage boy who gets roped into a situation far beyond what he anticipated and far exceeding his comfort zone, to say the least. Over time, though, Kenny grows an attachment to this ‘found family’ and comes into his own.

As mentioned, Poulter plays Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and while the Marvel comics’ version of this character was incredibly powerful and quite formidable, in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, he comes across as almost childish. Although there are narrative reasons for this in the MCU, it did mean Poulter’s MCU role and We’re The Millers characterended up having commonalities, particularly in their dispositions. In Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Adam Warlock also experiences a change of heart, leading to a similar sense of found family.

Will Poulter Isn’t The Only Future Marvel Star In We’re The Millers

Emma Roberts And Kathryn Hahn Have Also Had Recent Marvel Roles

Both Kathryn Hahn and Emma Roberts also appear in We’re The Millers and in Marvel. In the case of Emma Roberts, this was notably an appearance in a Marvel movie that was not part of the MCU timeline. Roberts played Mary Parker, Peter Parker’s mother, in Madame Web earlier this year. In We’re The Millers, Roberts played Casey Mathis, another member of the movie’s fake family.

Kathryn Hahn also appeared in We’re The Millers, although in a smaller role as Edie Fitzgerald. Hahn’s role in Marvel has proven to be much bigger; in fact, Kathryn Hahn has had two Marvel roles. Hahn first appeared in the MCU in WandaVision as ‘Agnes,’ who was originally presented as the nosy neighbor in Wanda’s Hex. Ultimately, she was revealed to be a witch herself, named Agatha Harkness. Since that show, Kathryn Hahn had a massive return to the MCU as Agatha Harkness in Agatha All Along, which only just concluded in October 2024.

Outside the MCU, Kathryn Hahn also had a voice role in Marvel, as Doc Ock in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Clearly, Will Poulter is in good company when it comes to co-stars who have appeared in both We’re The Millers and in various Marvel projects.
