The following contains major spoilers for Wolverine: Revenge #4, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel’s latest future Wolverine is taking on a new generation of eerily familiar mutant villains.
Wolverine: Revenge #4 picks up twenty years after the titular hero finally cut down those responsible for ushering in the end of the world as it once stood. Though the still living Sabretooth has been depowered, that hasn’t stopped him from plotting against his old nemesis. In fact, Sabretooth has brought together one of the deadliest teams of villains of all time, and the genetic predecessors to the original Omega Red are more than willing to bring about an end to the hero who killed their father over two decades prior.

The Omega Clan of Wolverine: Revenge, which consists of a new Omega Red, the infectious Omega White, and the sleek Omega Black, are just the latest iteration of the same band of villains who first appeared back in the pages of 2012’s X-Force #25 in Rick Remender and Mike McKone’s opening story, “Final Execution Chapter One.” Created by the clandestine organization known as White Sky, who were in the business of creating hand-crafted supervillains for their clients, the original Omega Clan were cloned from the first Omega Red. While these members of the Omega Clan were defeated by the overtly violent heroes of X-Force, they also found a future home for themselves alongside the rest of mutantkind on the short-lived island nation of Krakoa.
Arkady Grigorievich Rossovich, better known as Omega Red, made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of 1991’s X-Men #4 by John Byrne and Jim Lee. Leading up to his career as a supervillain, Rossovich was a member of the Russian Army who moonlighted as a serial killer until his crimes led to his death and subsequent resurrection as Omega Red. A potentially Omega Level mutant capable of releasing lethal Death Spores and draining the life from his opponents, Omega Red’s powers are enhanced by the Carbonadium armor and tentacles that helped him become an immediate fan-favorite.

One of the most powerful mutant heroes of all time has just stepped up to take over for Spider-Man in his next battle against a demonic evil.
The world of Wolverine: Revenge shares much of the same history as the primary Marvel Universe, all the way up until Magneto’s orbiting fortress, Asteroid M, came crashing down to Earth. Not only did the impact wipe out much of North America, the ensuing electromagnetic pulse destroyed almost all working technology across the entire planet. When Wolverine had the opportunity to turn things around, his efforts were interrupted by an unexpected team of villains including Sabretooth, Omega Red, Deadpool, and Colossus. In the wake of this tragedy, Wolverine hunted down and killed each of those who stood in his way, leaving only a maimed Sabretooth alive to suffer in silence for his crimes.
