Before the MCU, fans of all generations dove into the comic book world of Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains. At New York Comic Con (NYCC), Marvel (Booth No. 2153) expanded the lore of Wolverine, Phoenix, the X-Men, and more at Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing.

Comic book readers assemble! For those who couldn’t attend, the event featured well-known panelists, like Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, Writer Chris Condon, Writer Ryan North, and Writer Stephanie Phillips.

He’s the best at what he does. Everyone’s favorite X-Men joins the Ultimates Universe in Ultimate Wolverine #1. The panel revealed Wolverine’s new character design, variant comic book covers, and what readers can expect in this first issue.

“[We’re] looking into the future and bringing something new to Wolverine. All that you can expect of it, it’s gonna be pretty violent and, I hope, pretty good,” says Chris Condon, writer of Ultimate Wolverine #1. “If you notice that mask, there’s a muzzle on him. You might wonder why, [and] it’s because he’s wild. So, look out for Wolverine.”

Written by Chris Condon and drawn by Alessandro Cappuccio, the comic follows the character’s origin as a government weapon. Fans can start reading Ultimate Wolverine #1 when it hits the stands in January 2025.

To me, my X-Men (readers)! Between November and early 2025, Marvel will release an array of comic books about its beloved mutant heroes. Fans can reconnect with their favorite characters in Phoenix #5, Phoenix #6, and X-Men: Raid on Graymalkin, which consists of X-Men #8, Uncanny X-Men #7, X-Men #9, and Uncanny X-Men #8

“While Phoenix is playing this role of ‘I know what it means to be a hero in space,’ there’s this other big cosmic threat that’s kind of been developing in her periphery,” says Stephanie Phillips, writer of Phoenix #5. “We can kind of see where Perrikus’ threats start to come back, and she’s been watching him kind of doing this evil stuff that she hasn’t been quite aware of, and now it’s coming to a head.”

“It basically involves the two groups of X-Men…vectoring in on Graymalkin Prison, the former Xavier school where bad things are happening, and not necessarily being in accord as to what should be done about those things,” says Tom Brevoort aboutX-Men: Raid on Graymalkin.

One World Under Doom is Dr. Doom coming out of his dome, and overnight, taking over the world. [Doom] saying ‘Every country is now a province of the united Latveria, and everyone will answer to Doom,’” says Ryan North, writer of The Rise of Emperor Doom #1. “It’s also a very personal story about Dr. Doom, and what he wants, and him trying to show the world that he is the greatest that there ever was. [Also it’s] seeing how that can maybe not work out great for people not named Victor von Doom.”

One World Under Doom officially begins with the upcoming series Rise of Emperor Doom, a five-issue event series following the triumphs and trials of Dr. Doom’s rule, plus the foolish attempts to topple it. Rise of Emperor Doom #1 will launch in February 2025.
