Marvel revealed new information about its next overarching status quo during the Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing Panel at New York Comic Con. Teased as the biggest status quo shift since Dark Reign, the aptly titled One World Under Doom picks up the plot threads introduced in Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s Blood Hunt. Doctor Doom was given the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme during the event, and now is ready to set his plans into motion to take control of the world.
Marvel VP & Executive Editor Tom Breevort explained the structure of the status quo during the panel, stating:
“ONE WORLD UNDER ROOM is the umbrella, impacting not just THE RISE OF EMPEROR DOOM, but the entire Marvel Universe. To the Avengers, Spider-Man and more…Doom is going to impact every corner of the universe for 2025.”
The next step towards the status quo will be The Rise of Emperor Doom, a five issue limited series from Fantastic Four writer Ryan North and artist R.B. Silva. The limited story will track Doom’s takeover from the monarch’s perspective, following his attempts at ruling the world and those that stand opposite him. Tie-ining closely with North’s Fantastic Four run, the miniseries sets the stage for how Doom will interact with the wider Marvel universe to come.The era will not only influence existing books but is also set to create new miniseries and one-shots throughout the Marvel Universe.
Also during the panel, North spoke on where Doom is during the limited series, stating:
“ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM sees Doctor Doom coming out of [Latveria], and overnight, taking over the world. Every country is a province of a united Latveria, and everyone answers to Doom, and he is going to make some changes … He gets to show the world that he’s the greatest at what he does, and that might not be great for people not named Victor Von Doom.”
Along with the announcement, Marvel also shared a first look at Ben Harvey’s cover for issue one, along with a sneak peek at Silva’s interior art for the debut issue.
