Capcom’s line of Marvel fighting games began 30 years ago with the release of X-Men: Children of the Atom, so this little nod back to the classics is all too fitting after the release of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection.

One of the upcoming X-Men comics was recently revealed to have a cover apparently including a pretty direct homage to one of the most iconic Marvel vs. Capcom pieces of artwork.

This cover in particular will be found on the Uncanny X-Men #7 issue due out later this year.

It features a cover from artist David Marquez that should look all too familiar to fighting game fans.

The work lines up the mutants and makes them face each other for an impending showdown.

Marquez is clearly paying tribute to the legendary key art from the first Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes illustrated by Bengus except it’s darker and obviously missing the Capcom crew.

The new cover even includes quite a few of the same characters as the original like Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Psylocke, Jubilee and the Juggernaut, who is the only one to stay in his original spot.

There’s also of course more who’ve never been featured in MvC before like Beast and Nightcrawler plus Calico, Deathdream, Jitter and Ransom.

Fans may end up having to pick up two copies of this comic in particular, however.

That’s because this issue of Uncanny X-Men is the same one that’s featured as one of the 11 Marvel comics receiving a special Bengus cover art variant too.

Collector’s are also about to get a limited Marvel vs. Capcom comic book too in November for pre-ordering the physical version of the MvC collection.

Uncanny X-Men #7 is scheduled to release on comic store shelves in both variants on December 11, 2024.
