The following contains major spoilers for Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #3, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Ms. Marvel is falling behind the competition in the war against Orchis. Thankfully, she has an entire team of superheroes willing to pick up the slack.

After reuniting with Red Dagger, the titular hero of Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #3 and her ally find themselves beset on all sides by monstrous versions of the X-Men. Though the battle is fierce, the villains somehow disappear from the fight entirely. While this leaves Ms. Marvel and Red Dagger understandably confused, it isn’t long before the truth of the matter reveals itself in the form of Medusa, Karnak, and Lockjaw, all of whom are more than happy to lend a hand where they can to their once fellow Inhuman.

The Inhumans made their first appearance in the Marvel Universe all the way back in 1965’s Fantastic Four #45 by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. As an offshoot of early humanity, the beings who would become known as the Inhumans were experimented on by Kree scientists. These procedures unleashed the latent superpowered potential within those subjected to them, giving rise to a species that is intrinsically linked to humanity as it stands today.

During the events of 2009’s War of Kings #5 by writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning and artist Paul Pelletier, the ongoing battle between the Kree and Skrull empires boiled over on Earth with the release of a Terrigen Bomb containing the same Terrigen Mists that unleash an Inhuman’s latent powers. This resulted in countless individuals who had previously lived ordinary lives being imbued with impossible abilities, including Kamala Khan.
