Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

If you’re a fan of Disney+’s “Moon Knight”, we’ve got good news and we’ve got bad news. The good news is that it looks like Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight is definitely returning to the MCU. The bad news is that there likely won’t be a season 2 of “Moon Knight”.

The mixed news comes from Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum. Speaking to ComicBook, he said Moon Knight is coming back, but not in a season 2: “So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future.” He added that while he “would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2,” there were other plans for the character in the cards.

Winderbaum didn’t expand on what those other plans for Moon Knight were, though we have gotten a brief taste already of what’s to come. Isaac returned to voice his character in the season 3 premiere of the animated series “What If…?” Moon Knight was one of an alternate team of Mech Avengers formed to battle Godzilla-sized versions of the Hulk.

The recently released “Captain America: Brave New World” could include a fairly obvious clue regarding Moon Knight’s return. The film sees President Ross (Harrison Ford) asking Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to form a new Avengers team that would work for him. While things don’t work out very well for Ross, by the end Captain America seems eager to form his own new team of Avengers.

Moon Knight could very well be a candidate for that team along with other relative newcomers such as Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), Captain Marvel (Brie Larsen), and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu).

“Moon Knight” premiered on Disney+ in March 2022 to generally favorable reviews from fans and critics. Isaac plays Marc Spector, a man suffering from dissociative identity disorder and gifted with abilities by the Egyptian god Khonshu. May Calamawy plays Spector’s wife Layla while Ethan Hawke is the villain Arthur Harrow.

Moon Knight isn’t the only superhero Isaac will return to play. He voiced Spider-Man 2099 in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and the sequel “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”. While the third film, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has been hampered by delays, Isaac is expected to return to his voice role whenever the threequel does materialize.
