The following contains major spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #28, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Miles Morales is being forced into a fight with one of the greatest Avengers of all time — and two of Marvel’s most powerful gods are the reason why.

After months of training alongside the Black Panther and working to control his vampiric impulses, the titular hero of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #28 has made the trek all the way to Wakanda in search of a cure for his supernatural affliction. Upon coming face-to-face with Bast herself, who was responsible for curing T’Challa of the same ailment, Miles discovers that he has been carrying his own patron god in the form of Anansi this entire time. As startling as that revelation may be, what is even more shocking is the fact that bringing Anansi into Bast’s presence stands as a crime unto itself, and the only way for Miles to move forward from it is through the Black Panther.

Introduced all the way back in 1966’s Fantastic Four #52 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, T’Challa made his debut as the Black Panther, the reigning king of Wakanda and the nation’s greatest champion. While this first appearance was rife with opportunities for conflict, the Black Panther quickly found both friends and allies in Marvel’s First Family. Before long, T’Challa was joining the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, who he has fought valiantly alongside for nearly sixty years. Although the Black Panther has been caught in plenty of conflicts with his fellow heroes, he has always managed to come back around to the same side as the rest of the Avengers, often rotating through different iterations of the team’s core lineup.

During 2024’s Blood Hunt crossover event, T’Challa was just one of numerous Marvel superheroes who were stricken with vampirism after falling in battle to the overwhelming hordes that had been unleashed upon the world at large. This was preceded by the skies all across the globe being blacked out by a shroud of Darkforce energy, an act which was orchestrated by none other than Blade, albeit while under the possession of the world’s first vampire – Varnae. Thankfully, the world would ultimately be saved through the combined efforts of countless heroes, not to mention the timely intervention of Doctor Doom, the Earth’s newest Sorcerer Supreme.

Johnny Blaze is about to cross paths with more than a few other infernal heroes and villains in Marvel’s upcoming Spirits of Violence.

Though Blade was subjected to life as a vampire for a short time, he was able to convince Bast to cure him of his affliction through Wakanda’s fabled heart-shaped herb. While Miles Morales hasn’t been so lucky with his own vampirism, T’Challa quickly stepped up to help the young Spider-Man come to terms with his newfound undying status and everything that comes along with it. This includes Miles’ supernatural bloodlust, which T’Challa helped to mitigate by providing the former a whole new suit that is tailor-made to use Miles’ own bio-electric Venom to mitigate his vampiric thirst.

Spider-Man

Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics’ most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man’s most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character’s lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O’Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.

Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he’s changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
