Ultimate Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man as an older adult after already having two children with Mary Jane in the new Ultimate Universe. Marvel is making a big push for the Ultimate Universe line, fulfilling fans’ wishes for a happy marriage and family for Peter Parker and Mary Jane.

Fans of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson rejoice! Finally, after what seems like ages, Spider-Man readers will get to experience a world where Peter and Mary Jane are happily married with children, as an adult Parker becomes the beloved webslinger in Jonathan Hickman’s highly anticipated upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Spinning out of Jonathan Hickman’s Ultimate Invasion, Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man – with art from Marco Checchetto – will be the first ongoing series to debut as part of Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe line, after the evil Maker recreated the iconic world with his own designs.

Marvel’s announcement reveals that Ultimate Spider-Man’s adult Peter Parker will be married with children when his adventure as Spider-Man begins, highlighted in gorgeous promotional pieces from Ryan Stegman and Elizabeth Torque. Speaking on the non-traditional origins of the Ultimate Universe’s Spider-Man, Hickman states that “Peter and MJ being married is one of many decisions we made that underline this being quite a ‘different’ kind of Spider-Man story.”

Mary Jane And Peter Parker Are Finally Together Again

The relationship between Earth-616’s Peter and Mary Jane has been depressing and tense over the past year, since the controversial decision to break up the happy couple in Zeb Wells’The Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #2. Since then, fans have been desperate to see the iconic lovebirds back together. While Peter and Mary Jane had an emotional reconciliation after Norman Osborn’s sins were purged from Peter’s soul in The Amazing Spider-Man #35, MJ is still dating the much-derided Paul, and the two former lovers are nowhere close to being together again.

Ultimate Spider-Man is giving fans the chance to have their wishes fulfilled, with Hickman not only having Peter and Mary Jane still together as slightly older adults, but also raising two beautiful children. Peter and MJ have had a long series of children throughout an array of variant worlds, most famously Mayday Parker from the MC2 universe, May Parker from Earth X, and Annie May Parker from Renew Your Vows. While Peter and MJ have had various sons as well, almost always named after Uncle Ben, they are often portrayed as younger siblings of their first daughter, while it appears the Ultimate Spider-Man family has an older son and younger daughter.

Peter Parker Will Become Spider-Man As An Older Adult

The biggest difference between Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man and other Spider-Man stories is that Ultimate Peter Parker will somehow become Spider-Man as an older adult after he has already had his two children with Mary Jane. When the Maker crafted the new Ultimate Universe he specifically curated the world to not have many of the superheroes that had stopped him in the past, prompting him to capture the experimental spider off of Peter before it could bite him and give him powers.

It has not been hinted as to how Peter will gain his Spider-Man powers as an adult, but it will be fascinating to see how a family man balances his “great responsibility” to heroism with that of his wife and children. Marvel is making a big push for the Ultimate Universe line to be popular, meaning fans of MJ and Peter as a happy couple could have years more of comics featuring their favorite romance. Ultimate Spider-Man is already giving Spider-Man fans what they have been asking about for over a year, finally giving Peter Parker and Mary Jane a beautiful marriage and family together once again.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 from Marvel Comics debuts January 10th, 2024.
