Last year, Insomniac Games put out Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It was a pretty good time when all was said and done, and it left a lot of dangling story threads that left the window open for possible DLC to explore, but no followup is on the way.

During the Marvel Games panel at New York Comic-Con, it was announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would hit PC on January 30, 2025, and notably, there’s no plans for any post-launch adventures. Over on the PlayStation Blog, senior community manager Jason Espinoza confirmed Insomniac “has no additional story content planned.” This is surprising for a few reasons, the first being that the studio’s first Spider-Man game had three post-launch story packs that prominently starred side characters like Black Cat and Yuri Watanabe, and also set up Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It wouldn’t have been wrong to assume something was in the cards for this game.

The other reason it’s caught players by surprise is last year’s Insomniac hack. A lot of info from that hack spread through the internet, including rumblings of a potential story expansion for Spider-Man 2, or some kind of standalone follow-up akin to Miles. Since then, players have been convinced something was in the cards, despite Insomniac itself never actually implying or indicating anything like that would happen. But this new PS Blog officially kills those dreams, since it can only mean one thing: Insomniac’s fully moved on to Marvel’s Wolverine, which it said shortly after the hack that it would share more info on when the time was right.

With Wolverine now taking Insomniac’s focus until its eventual release, fans of the webheads will have to wait for the next part of the Spider-Man universe to get revealed. When will that be? That’s for Insomniac and PlayStation to decide.
