The following contains major spoilers for “The Hive Mind,” from the pages of Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1, on sale April 16 from Marvel Comics.
The Venomverse has its very own beating heart – and it is absolutely terrifying.
“The Hive Mind” (by Mat Groom, Luciano Vecchio, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC’s Travis Lanham, from the pages of Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1) gives readers a glimpse through time and space, all as seen through the eyes of the sentient Multiversal Symbiote Hive Mind. This ethereal structure is the beating heart, or living brain, that connects all symbiotes across each and every iteration of the Marvel Universe, including those it has recruited into its personal army. Unfortunately, the fact that it is amassing an army in the first place means that war is coming, and only the symbiotes of the Venomverse or the web-slinging heroes of the Spider-Verse will survive the battles to come.

Like the Spider-Verse before it, the Venomverse is the specific corner of the Multiverse that is shared by all variants of the Venom symbiote. The Venomverse was first seen in the pages of 2017’s Edge of Venomverse #1 by Matthew Rosenberg, Roland Boschi, Adam Gorham, and Daniel Brown. This landmark issue introduced one of the most popular Multiversal Venom variants, that being the Laura Kinney of Earth-24398, who was the first of her kind to join the Resistance force that stood against the malevolent crystalline Poison symbiotes.
“The Hive Mind” stands as an almost perfect parallel to “The Web-Heart” from the exact same creative team, which was published just last month in Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1. Like “The Hive Mind,” “The Web Heart” introduced the concept of a sentient Heart at the center of the Web of Life and Destiny. And, like the Hive Mind showcased at the outset of Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1, the Web-Heart’s journey is all about gathering together a team of champions who will be capable of winning the battles that lie ahead of them.
