The first hero featured in Blood Hunters #1 is none other than Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye. Although Hawkeye’s origin doesn’t involve the supernatural in any way, his years as an Avenger have seen him go up against vampires and other creatures of the night on numerous occasions. Most recently, Hawkeye has been on the run for a political assassination that he has been all too quick to own up to, even when the Black Widow knows he isn’t telling the whole truth.

John Jonah Jameson III, aka the Man-Wolf, also has a starring role in Blood Hunters #1. Despite having made his comic book debut over a decade prior, it wasn’t until 1973’s Amazing Spider-Man #124 that John Jameson made his first appearance as the cosmically empowered Man-Wolf. While John Jameson is very much a werewolf in his Man-Wolf form, the interstellar nature of his powers means that he is not subject to the usual weaknesses that Earthly werewolves have to worry about.

The final hero to take center stage in Blood Hunters #1 is Tandy Bowen, aka Dagger, who made her debut alongside her longtime partner Cloak in the pages of 1981’s Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Ed Hannigan. Both Tandy and Tyrone Johnson, aka Cloak, were experimented on by the menacing Dr. Simon Marshall, whose procedures imbued them with their respective Lightforce and Darkforce abilities. For Cloak, his Darkforce powers have landed him in the middle of the vampire conspiracy at the heart of Blood Hunt, while Tandy’s Lightforce powers make her one of the most powerful weapons against the world’s undead would-be overlords.
