If you’ve ever tried piecing together an arcade in your basement or garage, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Arcade1Up. The company is the most popular and prolific manufacturer of home arcade cabinets and other accessories, with a catalog that includes beloved games like NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Mortal Kombat, and arcade staples like Pac-Man. Its catalog is growing it bit larger in the coming months, as the team is launching the Arcade1Up Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 X-Men ‘97 Edition on April 25. Preorders have already opened for the machine at Amazon.
The Arcade1Up Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 X-Men ‘97 Edition is packed with all the features you’d expect from Arcade1Up’s Deluxe cabinets. This includes online multiplayer, a 17-inch color display, a light-up coin door, and gorgeous X-Men artwork. You’ll get access to eight games with the cabinet:
Marvel vs Capcom 2Marvel vs Capcom 1Marvel Super Heroes vs Street FighterX-Men vs Street FighterMarvel Super HeroesX-Men Children of the ATOMX-Men Mutant ApocalypseMarvel Superheroes in War of the Gems
If this list sounds familiar, that’s because the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Arcade1Up cabinet has the same exact games. The difference between the two is the cabinet artwork. The original cabinet focused on Marvel vs. Capcom 2, while the new one features X-Men instead. It is worth noting that the X-Men cabinet retails for $100 less than the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 model–however, you can save about 50 bucks on the original at Amazon and Walmart right now.
The cabinet stands at over five-feet tall. Like other “deluxe” Arcade1Up machines, you don’t have to use a separate riser to get it to normal standing height. Along with its large 17-inch screen, the unit benefits from dual speakers with adjustable volume levels–so you can game early in the morning or late at night without waking up the entire house. There’s also an anti-tip strap that can be installed if you’re worried about kids (or excited adults) knocking over the expensive unit.
For additional functionality, the machine can connect to the Arcade1Up mobile app to get leaderboard updates or to chat with others in the community.
Arcade1Up says the cabinet design was inspired by “the golden age of comic books,” with old-school X-Men artwork emblazed on all sides and with Wolverine adorning its front. It’s a good-looking cabinet, and since it’s packed with iconic fighting games, it should make a great addition to most home arcades.
X-Men fans should also check out Arcade1Up’s other X-Men cabinet, which comes with three games and supports up to four players. You can get the X-Men cabinet with a riser and matching stool for $500, down from $750, at Amazon and Best Buy.
