The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding by the minute, as yet another of its fan-favorite series is due for a comeback: the long-awaited return of Daredevil: Born Again.

As if that wasn’t enough to already send fans into overdrive, this series recently confirmed the entrance of one of its most powerful new villains: Muse. Given the guy’s been lingering throughout the comics all this time, this upcoming Disney+ series will take the first look at this bad guy brought to life. The way this villainous character makes his entrance is teased during the second round of filming, showing footage from D23.

Daredevil: Born Again Unveils First Footage at D23 With Exciting Updates About the Show’s Future

Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock returns as Daredevil in the first footage shown at D23.

First brought to fans through the series by a quick peek at his eerie blood paintings, one of his staples from the comic books, Muse sports a dark and twisted persona. Not too long after, a full reveal of the villain gave fans a look nearly identical to the original comic design. While an actor to play Muse has not been confirmed, the character creator, Charles Soule, gave his seal of approval to the adaptation by confirming that the live-action version nailed the feel and vibe of the sinister artist.

A New Dark Force in Hell’s Kitchen

With Muse coming into the MCU, Daredevil: Born Again takes a different turn as it introduces a villain with dark origin stories and psychopathic tendencies long popular among comic book readers. He happens to be one of the most dangerous foes Daredevil has ever faced — the misunderstood artist and serial killer known by the name of Muse. It’s not just the gruesome and artistic methods of the crime scenes that are off-putting, visibly; it’s also a psychological challenge to Matt Murdock, who fronts the Daredevil mask.

Fans got a first look at what’s in store with the footage paraded during D23, which includes a brutal fight between Daredevil and Muse. The scene stands remarkably similar to the iconic Netflix series’ hallway fights and promises to be one of the show’s high points, cramming high action into the gritty and dark atmosphere of Daredevil.

Fresh Take on Daredevil

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum spoke about the direction of Daredevil: Born Again. He explained that the series is going to be a mix between the familiar and the new. “Daredevil is incredible. It’s similar in some ways to X-Men ’97 because it’s reviving something that the fans love,” Winderbaum explained. “But it’s taking it in a new direction.”

What Comics Should The MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again Borrow From?

After some turbulence from the Netflix cancelation, Daredevil is finally returning to the MCU with Daredevil: Born Again next year, and many comic fans are likely wondering where this show will pull from. The original show was such a terrific take on the atmospheres of Frank Miller and Brian Bendis’ storylines (most notably), but where should this loose sequel borrow from? The subtitle makes Miller’s iconic story arc seem obvious at a glance, but Netflix’s Daredevil season 3 already did a rendition of it. Given how long this will likely take place after the original show, what are some other Daredevil comics that should influence the character’s second stint in the MCU?

He said the characters have grown up with a world that contains them. “Matt and Wilson have changed, and how their characters are going to collide is different than we have ever seen. It’s no longer good enough to just try to kill each other. Now there’s this whole game of politics in play.”

Fans will be able to see how Muse’s entrance puts Daredevil to the test anew and in unexpected ways when Daredevil: Born Again streams on Disney+. Returning Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, with a sterling supporting cast in tow, this series is sure to be a blackened and gritty addition to the Marvel saga.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released on Disney+ starting in March 2025.
