Warning: contains spoilers for Storm #7!

Marvel has just unveiled a vital new piece of lore, introducing Galactus’ boss, known as the Black Winter. Galactus is one of the most powerful entities in the Marvel Universe, but there are even stronger beings, ones that even the planet-devourer fears. The Black Winter is one such creature, but it has been largely a mystery, but in Storm #7, fans finally learn more about this fearsome entity.

Storm #7 was written by Murewa Ayodele and drawn by Luciano Vecchio. In the issue’s opening sequence, set in deep space, an unseen narrator explains the relationship Black Winter shares with Galactus, namely that he answers to it. Described as “ender” and a “rot storm,” the Black Winter must pass through the Oblivion Gate, where the entity Oblivion dwells. Most of the Black Winter’s fellow Enders are destroyed by Oblivion before they can reach the multiverse, but this one made it through.

Yet There Are Beings Even More Powerful Than Galactus

The Marvel Universe is full of powerful, cosmic beings who work on scales that mortals cannot comprehend. Among these entities are the aforementioned Oblivion, Eternity and the planet-eater Galactus. In his ship Taa II, Galactus traverses the cosmos, consuming planets. He employs a number of heralds to find his meals, and many of them have rebelled against their master. A survivor of a previous cycle of the multiverse, Galactus is one of the biggest threats in the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, but he has tasted defeat at the hands of Earth’s heroes before.
