Dan Slott to write Superman.

Marvel assembles Superior Avengers.

Witchblade goes ongoing.

This is the 350th episode of Comic Book Club News for January 17, 2025.

Look, up in the sky! Is it a bird? A plane? No, it’s writer Dan Slott, who, after decades of working at Marvel Comics is back at DC Comics for a new, ongoing series, Superman Unlimited. And not only that, artist Rafael Albuquerque is along for the ride.

And true to form for Slott, there are some big changes in store in the series. Kicking off in May, a massive Kryptonite asteroid showers the Earth with Green Kryptonite, changing the “balance of power in the criminal empires of Metropolis and across the globe.” Now, Intergang provides its foot soldiers with kryptonite bullets — and if that wasn’t bad enough, the Kryptonite deposits house “unlimited horrors yet to be unpacked.”

Kryptonite isn’t the only thing going worldwide in the series, though. Thanks to a merger with Morgan Edge’s Galaxy Communications, the Daily Planet expands into “a multimedia news platform with a cable news channel, website, strong social media presence, and—yes—Lois Lane is still editor in chief.” Consequently, Jimmy Olsen, Ron Troupe, Cat Grant and Steve Lombard all head up different branches of the Planet across the global network, with Tee-Nah, the goddaughter of Gorilla City’s King Solovar, working as IT specialist.

You can check out a 10-page prelude to the story in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, as part of Free Comic Book Day. Then Superman Unlimited #1 hits stores on May 21.

And as one last tease for the “Summer of Superman,” DC notes that there will be limited and ongoing series starring Superboy, Supergirl, Krypto, and more TBA.

Spinning out of One World Under Doom, Marvel is launching Superior Avengers, a six-issue limted series introducing a squad of villains working for Doctor Doom.

Written by Steve Foxe with art by Luca Maresca, the team will include Abomination, Doctor Octopus, Ghost, Killmonger, Malekith, and Onslaught. And they’re all working for Kristoff, the son of Doctor Doom.

While you may know that lineup, Marvel also teases that some twists and turns are to come — and the villains may not be who they seem. Superior Avengers #1 hits stores on April 16.

Top Cow and Image Comics new take on Witchblade has been upgraded to an ongoing series.

Per Bleeding Cool, written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Giuseppe Cafaro, the reimagined series has been a hit. Said Marc Silvestri: “The reaction to Witchblade has been absolutely incredible—it’s really blown us away. Sara Pezzini’s story is at the heart of everything we’re doing with this reimagined Top Cow Universe.”

The seventh issue is in stores now, and reintroduces a new take on Top Cow character The Darkness. in addition, the first volume trade is also in stores, collecting issues one through six, and adding a few new pages.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And now that I think of it, Dan Slott falling out of the sky is… Not great.
