Marvel Comics has given fans a new look at the new Avengers team which will appear in the One World Under Doom Event. The ‘Superior Avengers’ will have their own tie-in series, with several unlikely heroes looking to spread peace for Doctor Doom.
The Superior Avengers team is made up of some of the regular Avenger’s mortal enemies, including Hulk’s nemesis Abomination, Spider-Man’s Doctor Octopus, Ant-Man’s Ghost, Black Panther’s Killmonger, Thor’s Malekith and the X-Men’s Onslaught. With Doctor Doom terrorizing Earth as the Sorcerer Supreme, these six villains now have their sights set on “inspiring hope” as the Superior Avengers, with a six-part limited series launching April 16.

The evil origins of the Superior Avengers may end up being a facade, with the publisher teasing that there’s more to their story than meets the eye. “Are they really who they claim to be? Where did they come from? And, most importantly, whose side are they really on?” They also aren’t the only superteam assembling thanks to Doom’s new grip on the Marvel Universe. In January, it was announced that the Tiger Division team of superheroes from South Korea would reunite for the One World Under Doom event. Similar to the Superior Avengers, Doom’s Division will see the characters under Doom’s control and carrying out his bidding. Doom’s Division #1 goes on sale March 26.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Superior Avengers writer Steve Foxe teased how there’s plenty of depth to the characters and surprises in store for readers. “The characters we’re introducing—the killer designs by Luca Maresca— are who they appear to be. What motivates them and what they’re doing here — or what they’re running away from — is where things may get more complicated,” Foxe said.

“My hope was to subvert expectations with some of these names, and to surprise readers with what they actually get when they hear ‘Abomination’ or ‘Onslaught,'” he continued. “I don’t want to spoil too much about any of them, but exploring their unique voices has been a huge chunk of the fun on the book, especially since [series artist Luca Maresca] knocked all of their designs out of the park, pretty much on the first try.”
