So far, most of the stars you would normally expect would be showing up in “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel “Avengers: Secret Wars” have been characteristically tight-lipped about whether or not they would be appearing. Now we have one of our first confirmations of a Marvel regular who won’t be showing up. Elizabeth Olsen tells The Hollywood Reporter she won’t be in either of the Russo Brothers’ new Marvel movies.

Olsen was recently in London shooting “Panic Carefully.” Asked if she would be staying longer to shoot “Doomsday” and ‘Secret Wars” – which are shooting back-to-back in London – Olsen answered, “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [‘Panic Carefully’]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called ‘Seven Sisters’].”

After appearing in multiple Marvel films and TV shows, it seems Olsen has a new appreciation for projects outside the sprawling franchise.

“I didn’t realize this until about six years ago, but because Marvel and its influence takes up so much physical time and space in the world, it’s really important for me to make choices outside of Marvel that reflect my own taste,” Olsen said.

“Your taste does create the artist that you are, and that wasn’t something I was thinking about when I first started working. So the opportunity to return to films like [‘The Assessment’] is a reflection of the people I want to work with and my own personal taste.”

Of course, we should all remember that the fact that Olsen won’t be in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars” doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of her Wanda Maximoff. For one, she’ll be voicing the character for the upcoming animated series “Marvel Zombies.”

For another, she recently opened up about a radical new version of Wanda she’d pitched to Marvel, saying, “You know, when I think about my dream version [of Wanda], it’s like 50 years later, and I have white hair— such a big, massive white wig—and gnarly face of wrinkles doing like a Tracy Ullman thing. And I am just like a creature that they find. And that’s how I imagine Wanda’s next journey.”

She added, “It’s something I have quite literally pitched. Because it would be so fun to get to do that to me. I mean, I guess in one of the comics, she ages quite quickly, and I think those are the images that are implanted in my brain next because I haven’t done it.”

We should also remember that believing an actor when they say whether or not they’ll be in a Marvel movie (e.g. Charlie Cox and Andrew Garfield in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”) isn’t necessarily the smartest thing to do.

“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters May 1, 2026.
