A Marvel fan believes that their artwork has been stolen by Marvel Snap, and is now calling out the mobile app for plagiarizing.
Marvel Snap is a card game that currently has over 270 different cards. These cards are combined to create powerful decks with various effects and abilities based on the Marvel universe. The card in question belongs to Black Panther’s M’Baku, a prominent and long-time villain from the comic series. The alleged theft was called out by artist Jason (Jay) Kiantoro via X.

Creating the perfect balance for Marvel Snap cards isn’t easy, resulting in various updates that nerf and buff cards to improve gameplay.
Back in 2018, Kiantoro created fan art of M’Baku. It now looks like this art could have been added to Marvel Snap in 2022.
Fan Art Accusations Explained
On X earlier this week, Kiantoro tweeted two images that looked eerily similar. One was his own art, and the other on the right was from Marvel Snap. Both showed M’Baku in the same pose, wearing the same outfit and holding a similar staff. Kiantoro said that he just found out about it on March 16 despite the art being used years ago.
“What’s funny, is that for the past few months, I’ve been repeatedly emailing Marvel Snap, asking if I can work for them with no response ever,” he added.
His followers immediately told him to get compensation, but Kiantoro stated that he was not looking for any payment. He tweeted: “While I appreciate the sentiment, I dont think they can or should. What I made was fan art after all. This is mostly just a callout post at that G-Angle studio for their lack of research and/or ethics.”

So far, the developers behind Marvel Snap have not responded to the accusations. It’s been a pretty crazy year for the mobile game, which was banned earlier in 2025 for being owned by Bytedance. The team offered players compensation for the two days it had gone dark. Seemingly passionate about its fanbase, only time will tell if they address the stolen art accusations.
