It looks like Marvel Studios could be cutting back on some of its output in the next few years. In fact, we could be seeing two major Marvel Cinematic Universe projects being cancelled altogether. According to a new rumor, two upcoming MCU movies have been cancelled.

The reports regarding these two projects have stemmed from MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios. The new book revealed a number of details regarding Marvel and the behind-the-scenes nature of the studio. As such, it appears that Kevin Feige and his team are eager to rework a number of projects – and cancelling others.

We’ve already seen this with the announcement that Daredevil: Born Again would be retooled. We also already had the report that Wonder Man was likely canned.

Now, according to @EmpireCityBO on X, Blade and Thunderbolts are two other projects in danger. Here’s what was shared:

Of course, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. But we do know that these two projects have suffered difficult development periods. Thunderbolts has switched up writers and Blade has gone through a number of scripts and directors. In fact, Blade star Mahershala Ali has been said to be unhappy with the script for the film. So it’s indeed very possible that with those issues, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and Marvel’s losses, that they’ve simply decided to cancel these films.

As of this writing, Thunderbolts was most recently scheduled for a December 20, 2024 release date. Blade was most recently scheduled for a February 14, 2025 release date.

Ultimately we’ll just have to see what happens. Especially as Marvel Studios hasn’t made anything near an official announcement. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional MCU updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more confirmation regarding the statuses of both Blade and Thunderbolts in the near future.
