Namor makes advances towards Sue, and even hints at his feelings for her in conversations with Reed, but she clearly does not reciprocate his feelings. Instead, Invisible Woman seems to harbor a disdain towards Namor. For those familiar with their comic interactions, this choice should be a huge relief.

Historically, Namor the Sub-Mariner has threatened Sue’s marriage to Reed by vying for her affection at every turn. Their “love story” isn’t exactly the most healthy one, with his early attempts at courtship being kidnappings. Surprisingly, there have been times when Sue has actually considered acting on feelings for Namor, and Marvel Rivals could have leaned into that for shock value. Although she did love him in the past – in fact, she once came close to divorcing Reed so that she could be with Namor instead – her heart now lies firmly with her husband and the family they’ve built. Still, Namor doesn’t back down, consistently reappearing in Sue’s life to win her over despite her rejections.

Invisible Woman isn’t the only member of the Fantastic Four who’s developed a vendetta against the Sub-Mariner as Marvel Rivals indicates. Reed Richards’ hatred towards Namor burns even brighter than his wife’s, and he has repeatedly made it evident that he doesn’t care for the man who keeps meddling with his marriage. In Fantastic Four #48 by David Pepose and Juan Cabal, it’s revealed that Reed has installed a security protocol in the Baxter Building that activates when Sue says Namor’s catchphrase aloud. Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman may be superheroes, but they aren’t above petty grudges against people like Namor.
