Two heroes born of different worlds but united under one cause, Elsa Bloodstone and the Werewolf by Night, Jack Russell, are an unsuspecting romantic pairing who have given it a shot before. Elsa is a monster hunter who loves her work, while Jack is a monster who hates what he is. Despite their obvious opposition, the two have shown sparks over the years, and now they have a chance to try again.

Werewolf by Night (2024)by Jason Loo and Sergio Fernández Dávila is a new and ongoing series that sees the King of All Wolves adjust to the Marvel Universe’s constant changes to its many monsters.

The recently-concluded Blood Hunt event saw the world cast in endless darkness and the Mother of Horrors is exerting her powers to kill the Hulk. Caught in between, Jack has been struggling to keep control and is waking up to bloody massacres even without the full moon. Fortunately, Elsa Bloodstone has arrived to help her old love interest, and this time their feral attraction may last.

The Unexpected Couple Has Already Tried Once

series hints that the star-crossed lovers may be giving it a second shot.

Before Jack Russell’s current series, he and Elsa have always shown a casual attraction towards each other. Fans of the couple had speculated for years on whether the two had ever been in a committed relationship. However, in Werewolf by Night (2023), by Derek Landy and Fran Galán, it was revealed that the two did have a formal relationship that, unfortunately, could not hold together. While their attraction to each other was still obvious, both admitted that life couldn’t allow them to live happily together.

Elsa is dedicated to her work and Jack is terrified of putting himself around innocent people, which hinders their ability to maintain a traditional home. However, cover art for this year’s Werewolf by Night series hints that the star-crossed lovers may be giving it a second shot. Erik M. Gist’s official cover art for issue #4 presents a seductive tease to the heroes’ blossoming relationship as Jack holds Elsa close in his arms, albeit with a terrifying grip. Additionally, in David Mack’s variant cover art for issue #2, the monstrous pair fully embrace each other with a kiss.

The Werewolf by Night slashes his way into a new story that sees the monstrous anti-hero catastrophically lose control, much like Bruce Banner before.

Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone Are Oddly Perfect For Each Other

Monstrous Love Knows No Bounds

While their relationship may seem like a bloody recipe for disaster, they are better suited for each other than could be expected. Elsa is brash and bold, while Jack, despite his monstrous mayhem, is sweet yet still savage. Elsa is the only person equipped and understanding enough to handle Jack’s transformations. In return, Jack is one of the few people who make Elsa feel that she doesn’t have to be the strongest person in the room. It may not be a match made in Heaven, but it certainly has the potential to give both parties some of what the other needs.

The new Werewolf by Night series isn’t the only Marvel media that supports a romantic monster mash either. In the Disney+ special feature, bearing the same title, Elsa and Jack’s on-screen relationship did present some sparks of friendly interest. While it wouldn’t be considered romantic, it does show that Marvel is fully recognizing the characters’ propensity for attraction. Given the proper chance, as it seems readers may soon get to see, the Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone make a totally unique and honestly heartwarming couple that easily asserts themselves as Marvel’s next power couple.
