A new “Thunderbolts*” teaser has dropped focusing on both the humor and the talent in front of and behind the camera. You can watch the new teaser below.

Clocking in at just over a minute, the teaser still manages to give us some new footage including the team on some kind of road trip with Red Guardian (David Harbour) behind the wheel, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) confronting a double of herself (possibly a Skrull?), and Red Guardian screaming like a madman.

The trailer seems to want to distance itself from the superhero genre, pointing out all of the other acclaimed projects the cast and crew have been a part of.
Along with pointing out the stars have been in “Midsommar” (Pugh), “A Different Man” (Sebastian Stan), and “You Hurt My Feelings” (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), it gives us the crew’s resumes. It reminds us the writers (Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo) and director (Jake Schreier) of Netflix‘s “Beef” are behind “Thunderbolts*” along with the cinematographer of “The Green Knight” (Andrew Droz Palermo), the production designer of “Hereditary” (Grace Yun), the editor of “Minari” (Harry Yoon), and the composer of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (Son Lux).
It seems likely Marvel is trying to prevent what happened to “Captain America: Brave New World” from happening to “Thunderbolts*.” The earlier movie endured some of the harshest critical reviews in the history of the MCU and so far has only grossed around $345 million against a production budget of $180 million and likely a substantial marketing budget. With its new teaser, Marvel seems to be saying, “This one won’t get bad reviews!”
The Thunderbolts started their comic book career somewhat differently than their MCU counterparts. Rather than a team of anti-heroes, in the comics, the Thunderbolts were supervillains pretending to be superheroes. Eventually pretending to be heroes made most of them actually want to be heroic.
The premise of “Thunderbolts” has shifted wildly over the years from teams more like what we’re seeing in the movie, to a weird supervillain version of “Fight Club.”
One thing that could hurt “Thunderbolts*” is that getting to know the various characters takes a bit more homework. You need to have seen at least a couple of “Captain America” films to know Winter Soldier, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” to get to know USAgent (Wyatt Russell), and “Ant-Man & The Wasp” to get familiar with Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). For Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), you’ll need to check out “Black Widow.”
Thunderbolts* blasts its way into theaters May 2.
