Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Sam Wilson: Captain America #2!Captain America: Brave New World will show Sam Wilson truly owning his role as the MCU’s new Captain America for the first time (following the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). Similarly, Marvel Comics is launching an all-new Sam Wilson: Captain America comic series, further highlighting Sam’s Captain America status. However, Captain America isn’t the only ‘super-soldier’ receiving the spotlight in Sam Wilson’s new comic series, as another is getting a major makeover ahead of Captain America: Brave New World.
In the solicitation for Sam Wilson: Captain America #2 by Greg Pak and Evan Narcisse, readers are given a first-look at the issue’s main cover art (by artist Taurin Clarke), along with the official synopsis.
VS. RED HULK! After Eaglestar shows its true colors, Sam tangles with their big, red and furious head of security. But another player is about to enter the fray: Josiah X! He’s got a new mission and a new look — but is he there to help Sam or pursue his own agenda?
Right off the bat, it’s easy to see how visually stunning the cover art is, and how this new series is perfectly complimenting Captain America: Brave New World. Sam Wilson and Red Hulk are going toe-to-toe in spectacular fashion, just as they’re about to on the big screen. However, what’s especially interesting about this solicitation is not what’s on the cover, but what’s revealed in the synopsis, as the super-soldier Josiah X will be making his long-awaited return, and will be doing so with an all-new look.
Who Is Josiah X? History and Powers, Explained
Josiah X Made His Marvel Comics Debut in Crew #1 by Christopher Priest and Joe Bennett
Josiah X is the biological son of Isaiah Bradley, created by military scientists from Isaiah’s super-soldier DNA. However, after his surrogate mother named Sarah Gail found out what the military had planned for Josiah, she escaped. She went to Isaiah and his wife, Faith, for help, but the best Faith could do was hide Sarah from those who were coming after her long enough to send Josiah far away, hopefully to safety. Josiah was later taken in by an orphanage, where he spent his entire childhood before he enlisted in the military once his superhuman abilities started to manifest.
Josiah fought in the Vietnam War, and after exhibiting his super-soldier abilities, he was discovered by those who had spent the last few years looking for him. Josiah was transferred to a research facility back in the states, but he didn’t stay there for long, as Sarah helped him escape the government’s clutches once again. After that, Josiah used his abilities to become a mercenary, killing anyone for the right price. However, Josiah eventually started to use his powers for good when he joined The Crew, but his superhero career was incredibly short-lived.
Is Marvel Comics Teasing Josiah X’s MCU Debut?
Josiah X Making His MCU Debut in Captain America: Brave New World Would Be Perfect
MCU fans know from the trailers alone that Isaiah Bradley will play a major role in Captain America: Brave New World, meaning the door is left wide open for his son, Josiah X, to make his MCU debut in the very same film. Perhaps the villainous entity pulling the strings behind the scenes has successfully created Josiah from Isaiah’s DNA, and Isaiah’s inclusion in the film is more of a way to introduce his son. If Sam Wilson’s new comic is, indeed, an echo of his new MCU film, then that is a very real possibility.
Wonder Man Gets a New Nickname Ahead of Simon Williams’ MCU Debut
Wonder Man just got an all-new nickname during his latest Avengers adventure in Marvel Comics, one that is perfect for his upcoming MCU depiction.
While introducing Josiah X in Captain America: Brave New World would be the perfect way to bring the character into the MCU, fans will at least be seeing the super-soldier very soon in Sam Wilson’s new Captain America comic series. Indeed, Josiah X has been shamefully underutilized in Marvel Comics, but now, he’s making a big comeback with a major makeover ahead of Captain America: Brave New World.
