At the end of the X-Men’s previous comics era involving the Orchis War, Charles Xavier surrendered himself to the authorities and was imprisoned in Graymalkin. In the events leading up to X-Manhunt, Professor X finds a way to escape his incarceration for reasons that remain a mystery. According to Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, Xavier’s escape is the perfect opportunity to launch the X-Men’s first crossover in their new era.
