Marvel Comics will release a special Pride issue this June celebrating the publisher’s LGBTQIA+ creators and characters.

A giant-size anthology one-shot, Marvel United: A Pride Special #1, will contain four inspirational and action-packed adventures with Marvel’s heroes, including members of the Avengers and X-Men teams. Marvel also teases that the special will bring together a wide roster of industry talent, from established creators to up-and-comers, some of whom will make their Marvel Comics debut with the special. Marvel United: A Pride Special #1 goes on sale June 4.

Marvel’s Next Power Couple Is Electrifying – Literally

One of Spider-Man’s oldest foes and his villainous successor are embarking on a new kind of partnership, and the sparks are flying.

Marvel revealed cover art for the special Pride issue and teased the stories fans can look forward to reading. Al Ewing and Kei Zama team up for a story about Aaron Fischer, Captain America of the Railways, as he confronts the villainous Hate-Monger. Another Captain America story from Anthony Oliveira and Pablo Collar will see Arnie Roth fighting alongside Cap against Hydra at the height of World War II.

While last year’s Marvel Pride story saw fans finally getting to witness the wedding of the X-Men’s Mystique and Destiny, this year’s Pride anthology will give fans the next chapter in their romance, with their son, Nightcrawler, co-starring. The story is written by Wyatt Kennedy with art by Bayleigh Underwood in her Marvel Comics debut.

Marvel United: A Pride Special sees another Marvel Comics debut with its final story, with writer Zoe Tunnell teaming up with Federica Mancin to tell the story of a Black Cat heist gone wrong as the thief finds herself with the hero Sera in a battle against the fear-inducing demon D’Spayre.

Marvel to Celebrate Pride Month With Special Variant Covers

In announcing Marvel United: A Pride Special #1, the publisher shared a variety of variant covers for the anthology one-shot, including art by Lucas Werneck, Jan Bazaldua, Ernando Souz, Luciano Vecchio and Rickie Yagawa. Marvel also shared that even more Pride celebrations are set to be announced in the weeks ahead, including the reveal of this year’s Pride Variant Covers.

Last year, Marvel saw the X-Men, Spider-Man and more heroes celebrating Pride Month with special cover art released on its main ongoing titles. The special variants saw the stars of Marvel’s comics teaming up with LGBTQIA+ heroes, with Storm and Iceman coming together on the cover of June’s X-Men issue, for example. Other team-ups included Hulkling and the Hulk, Spider-Man and Northstar, and Captain America and America Chavez, among others.
