Marvel has shed a light on its new Avengers line-up, in the world of Marvel Comics that is.

If you eager beavers are here for an Avengers: Doomsday line-up, that’s not yet been announced – although we do have a pretty good idea of a few key players.

Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Anthony Mackie have made reference to the film, suggesting Captain America 2.0 and Doctor Strange will certainly be leading forces on the team.

Today though, it’s the very exciting new Ultimates universe that I want to highlight – a series that first originated this summer.

As such, we’re a few issues into the run but it’s nothing that you can’t catch up on.

The most recent issue, Ultimates #7, launched on 4 December with the series now on a short festive hiatus.

Issue #8 is next up, releasing on 01 January 2025, followed by Issue #9 on 05 February and Issue #10 on 05 March 2025.

If you’re unsure of whether the series is for you though, Marvel Comics has posted a handy deep dive over on social media, shining a spotlight on this new Avengers line-up.

ICYMI: Anthony Mackie’s Captain America returns in Brave New World, coming February 2025.

It’s Tony Stark that I want to focus on, as this is a vastly different iteration from what we’re used to in the MCU.

A far cry from Robert Downey Jr’s take on the character, Ultimates’ Iron Man is in fact still a teenager – and actually not an ‘Iron Man’ at all.

“Following in his father’s footsteps, the teenage Tony Stark leads the resistance against the Maker as the armoured hero known as Iron Lad,” the character’s description reads.

I have to say, as much as I’m enjoying the Ultimates series, there’s something about the name Iron Lad that’s funny to me.

It could be the Britishness of the moniker, especially considering this is an all-American hero.

The rest of the team is made up of Doom (who’s actually Reed Richards), Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Sif, She-Hulk, Giant-Man, Wasp, America Chavez, and The Human Torch.

Yes, you heard me. Doom is a hero who just also happens to be good ol’ Reed.

It’s unlike any other run you’ll find in recent memory in the world of Marvel Comics so why not use the festive season to catch up before the next issue drops?
