Warning: contains spoilers for current issues of Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu!
2025 is Moon Knight’s 50th anniversary, and to celebrate, Marvel is releasing a special anniversary issue, featuring a history-making fight. Writer Jed MacKay took over chronicling Moon Knight’s adventures four years ago, and he has helped redefine the character for a new generation. Now, in the forthcoming Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #250, Marc Spector is heading for the fight of his life, one that will set up his next chapter.
Marvel shared a first look at Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #250 on their website. The book, which will be written by regular Moon Knight scribe Jed MacKay and drawn by Devmalya Pramanik, is the culmination of Moon Knight’s crusade against the Asgardian supervillain Achilles Fairchild. Fairchild has been flooding the streets of New York with a highly addictive drug, and Moon Knight has sworn to take him down. With Moon Knight and Fairchild on a collision course, Marvel promises big things for the character. Moon Knight #250 ships with variant covers by EM Gist and acclaimed Moon Knight artist Stephen Platt.
For 50 Years, Moon Knight Has Been One of Marvel’s Most Popular Characters
Jed MacKay Has Redefined Moon Knight For a New Era
Moon Knight, erroneously referred to as “Marvel’s answer to Batman,” had a fairly quiet introduction to Marvel lore. Brought in by the mysterious Committee to take out the Werewolf Jack Russell, Moon Knight became one of Marvel’s breakout characters of the 1970s. After years of guest starring in other titles, Moon Knight was awarded his first solo title in the early 1980s, and the character has stayed in circulation more or less since. Creators as diverse as Jack Kirby, Doug Moench and Brian Michael Bendis have all taken cracks at Moon Knight since his first appearance.
MacKay had already made a name for himself with an acclaimed run on Black Cat, demonstrating he could write characters who skirt the edges of the law, which made him perfect for writing Moon Knight.
Moon Knight had a new beginning when Jed MacKay came on board as writer in 2021. MacKay had already made a name for himself with an acclaimed run on Black Cat, demonstrating he could write characters who skirt the edges of the law, which made him perfect for writing Moon Knight. MacKay created the Midnight Mission, reemphasizing Moon Knight’s original mission of protecting travelers at night. MacKay introduced Hunter’s Moon, another Fist of Khonshu, as well as reintroducing Tigra to a role of prominence in the Marvel Universe. MacKay shows no signs of stepping down on Moon Knight.
While Moon Knight was “dead,” the superhero the Shroud replaced him.
In addition to expanding Moon Knight’s supporting cast, MacKay and his collaborators have introduced some terrifying new villains as well. The book kicks off with Moon Knight fighting vampires, whose very nature puts them in opposition to him. Moon Knight “died” at the hands of the Black Spectre, but was later revived by Khonshu. As Moon Knight tried to get his life back together, Achilles Fairchild revealed himself. Hailing from Asgard, the villain has already bested Moon Knight once, and his drug “Glitter” is ravaging the streets of New York, as well as the people under Moon Knight’s protection.
Moon Knight’s Epic Fight With Achilles Fairchild Sets Up the Next Stage of His Career
Achilles Fairchild May Have Made a Huge Mistake Crossing Moon Knight
All of this will make for a potentially epic fight in Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #250. No one makes a fool out of Moon Knight, but that is exactly what Achilles Fairchild has done. Moon Knight faced some powerful villains in his day, but never before has he faced a demi-god like Achilles Fairchild. Moon Knight’s 50th anniversary deserves a worthy foe, and Fairchild might just be the one, yet he underestimates the Fist of Khonshu at his own risk. Many have done so over the last 50 years, and come to regret it.
