The following contains major spoilers for Werewolf by Night #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

A fan-favorite supernatural antihero has just been cut down in her prime, and it could spell doom for the Marvel Universe.

Werewolf by Night #6 opens to the terrifying sight of Lilith, returned to reclaim control of the monstrous Darkholders who have so far failed to bring Jack Russell, aka the Werewolf by Night, to heel. After being imbued with Lilith’s dark magic, the once dying Deathwatch is transformed into something far greater than he ever was before. This new Deathwatch is so much more powerful, in fact, that he has no problem catching up to Jack, nor with ending Elsa Bloodstone’s life for getting in his way.

Introduced in the pages of 2001’s Bloodstone by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Michael Lopez, Elsa Bloodstone is the daughter of the infamous monster hunter, Ulysses Bloodstone, who raised her to be every bit as capable as he was. Although Ulysses was successful in building Elsa up as a powerful monster hunter in her own right, he also left her with a cold-blooded streak that she still hasn’t shaken over twenty years later. In the years since her debut, Elsa has been a prominent part of numerous storylines, all while finding an unlikely romance with none other than the original Werewolf by Night himself.

The demonic assassin known as Deathwatch made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of 1990’s Ghost Rider #1 by Howard Mackie and Javier Saltares. In the mortal world, Deathwatch took up the guise of underworld crime lord Stephen Lords, who was making moves on Wilson Fisk’s territory in a bid to usurp the latter’s mantle as the Kingpin of Crime. Unsurprisingly, Deathwatch’s various schemes would be consistently undone by the likes of Danny Ketch, Wolverine, and even Venom. Deathwatch has even joined forces with other supernatural villains such as the Hood in an attempt to take on the current Sorcerer Supreme of Earth – Doctor Doom.

Also known as the Queen of Evil and the Mother of Demons, the ancient Lilith’s origins have been lost to time, as she was already countless years old by the time humanity first graced the face of the Earth. First seen in a horrifying vision in the pages of 1992’s Ghost Rider #28 by Howard Mackie and Andy Kubert, Lilith was at the heart of the formation of Marvel’s original Midnight Sons, who joined forces to oppose her efforts to tear apart the dimensional barriers separating the mortal realm from those of all manner of menacing creatures. While Lilith was ultimately defeated, she has returned to the spotlight on numerous occasions to wage war against the likes of Blade, Doctor Strange, and the Spirit of Vengeance.
