WARNING! Spoilers for The Ultimates #10
Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe hasn’t held itself back from killing off major characters, but one classic hero just suffered a fate far more bleak than the rest. Namor the Sub-Mariner’s introduction to this revamped continuity comes in the form of his corpse, and its condition is enough to make anyone’s stomach churn.
In The Ultimates #10 by Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, Federico Blee, and Travis Lanham, Captain America and the Human Torch lead the Ultimates on a mission to enlist Namor to their cause. However, things take an unexpected turn when they fight their way past the Red Skulls and discover Namor’s dead body within their base.
Not only is Namor dead in the Ultimate Universe, but his body has been taxidermized and hung on the wall like a fish. This brutal murder of an original Marvel character shows just how far this new continuity is willing to stray from its predecessor, even when it comes to icons like Namor.
Namor Faces a Horrific Death in Marvel’s New Ultimate Universe
Namor’s Corpse Gets Taxidermized like a Fish, Sealing His Tragic Fate
In the new Ultimate Universe, Namor originally fought by Captain America’s side in World War II, along with Bucky Barnes and Jim Hammond’s Human Torch. Steve Rogers has been trying to round up his old comrades and recruit them to the expanding Ultimates network so they can aid the heroes in their fight against the Maker, so Namor has naturally come to mind as a viable option. Unfortunately, the Red Skulls have already turned Namor into their horrifying trophy following his death in Atlantis, subjecting the former king to a cruel fate that dehumanizes him.

Namor’s throne is up for grabs as the once King of Atlantis comes face-to-face with his cruel hypocrisy. The ocean’s depths demand retribution.
Namor was killed due to his inability to adhere to Atlantean laws, undoubtedly because of the rebellious streak that is seen in his alliance with Captain America. Then, when his body was laid underwater, he was worshiped by the denizens of the sea long after he passed. It was even said, according to the Grand Skull, that “the ocean’s micro-organisms refuse to eat the body” and have thus allowed it to retain its form. The Red Skull gang has since seized the corpse for themselves, removing it from its rightful resting place – until Captain America and his teammates return it to the sea.
Sorry, Namor: This Marvel Hero Won’t Be Joining The Ultimates
Namor Is Officially Dead in the Revamped Ultimate Universe
Namor’s death is a deeply disturbing one, but beyond its surface-level grotesqueness, it also indicates that he will no longer be a player within Marvel’s updated continuity. The Ultimates are down a potential hero and must now look elsewhere. Though anyone who’d been eanticipating Namor’s arrival in this universe may be disappointed by this tragic outcome, readers can at least be satisfied in knowing that his body is no longer being displayed on a neo-Nazi organization’s wall. Thanks to the Ultimates’ efforts, Namor has been laid to rest in the ocean, exactly where the Sub-Mariner belongs.
