Marvel’s New Champions, set to debut in 2025 – with the team consisting of Cadet Marvel, Fantasma, Liberty, and Moon Squire – have taken the Champions’ name and catchphrase, and the original squad – Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Nova, Viv Vision, and Brawn – will apparently have something to say about that, leading to a Champions vs. Champions crossover conflict.
Marvel’s advanced synopsis for New Champions #3 – written by Steve Foxe, with art by Ivan Fiorelli – teases that the New Champions will come face-to-face with the previous Champions, who have a problem with their name and catchphrase being used by these new teen heroes.
That said, whatever their differences might amount to during this initial encounter, the synopsis also informs readers that, in typical superhero-team face-off fashion, the two versions of the Champions will be brought together to fight a common enemy.

Original Team’s Debut: Champions #1 – Written By Mark Waid; Art By Humberto Ramos; Released In 2016
To understand the dynamic between the New Champions and their predecessors, it is first important to have an idea of who the original team were, and why they came together. Originally, Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Spider-Man (Miles Morales), and Nova (Sam Alexander) were part of the All-New, All-Different Avengers. After dreaming of being a part of the team for a long time, these young heroes felt like they had finally made it. That is, until Marvel’s Civil War II, a conflict between superheroes that left these younger, more idealistic characters disillusioned.

NEW CHAMPIONS – Full Roster & Powers of Marvel’s New Hero Team Explained
In January 2025, Marvel debuts “New Champions,” its latest team title; here is what readers need to know about the team’s roster before the premiere.
The Champions eventually had a run in with the law when Viv Vision malfunctioned and exploded during a mission, destroying Ms. Marvel’s school; subsequently, “Kamala’s Law” was passed, named after Ms. Marvel, who was left comatose by the explosion, which outlawed any individual under twenty-one from operating as a superhero unless supervised by an experienced adult hero. When Ms. Marvel woke up, she was furious that her name was used to outlaw teen heroes. She decided that the Champions would continue to operate, which resulted in them being hunted down by C.R.A.D.L.E.
Present Cyclops stepped in and saved the Champions from C.R.A.D.L.E., granting them asylum on the mutant nation of Krakoa, and eventually “Kamala’s Law” was abolished. The Champions series didn’t last much longer after the Outlawed storyline, and since then, the Champions haven’t return in full force – until New Champions #3. From the teaser for the issue released by Marvel, it seems that more than just passing the torch to a new generation of heroes, this may serve as a revival for the original roster, who can now take on the role of mentors.
