Jonathan Hickman is coming… and no Marvel fan is prepared for his next epic project. The visionary writer, known for his extensively researched “series bibles,” will lead a massive overhaul of the Marvel Cosmic line of comics, featuring iconic heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova. The upcoming Imperial will change the landscape of Marvel’s space adventures for years to come, and there is no one better to take the reigns than Hickman.
Jonathan Hickman has been planning his Imperial limited series since his time writing House of X/Powers of X, the much-lauded X-Men relaunch, and is finally being allowed to unleash his ferocious ideas upon Marvel’s vast cosmos.
The Imperial series – which features art from Federico Vicentini and Iban Coello – will work as an event comic, eventually launching a new Marvel Cosmic line of interconnected comics, similar to what Hickman did with the Ultimate Invasion event, which led directly into the massively popular new Ultimate Universe, and its many beloved series.
“I’m very excited about this project as I’m obviously a huge fan of all things Marvel Cosmic,” Hickman said. “The goal here is to kind of do what we did with the recent Ultimate line for all of our space titles, except having the setup book (IMPERIAL) be more of an event than a world building exercise (like ULTIMATE INVASION). The art team is killing it, and we’re all just very excited for what’s happening in this special corner of the Marvel Universe.”

Marvel Is About to Reshape Its Galactic Canon With Imperial, Changing the Multiverse For Good
The cosmic side of the Marvel Universe is about to face a major overhaul as new details are released about Jonathan Hickman’s upcoming miniseries.
Hickman Is The Perfect Creator To Revamp Marvel Cosmic
The acclaimed writer has worked on X-Men, Fantastic Four, G.O.D.S., and the Ultimate Universe
Jonathan Hickman has been publishing comics for nearly 20 years and has become known for his impressive and vast storytelling, founded on intense canonical research. Besides his brilliant creator-owned series like East of West and The Manhattan Projects, Hickman is best known to Marvel fans as the visionary behind Dawn of X, his acclaimed run on Fantastic Four, and Ultimate Invasion. Currently, he is writing for the beloved Ultimate Spider-Man, the alternate-reality horror Avengers vs. Aliens, and Wolverine: Revenge, while also working on the debut of Imperial.

Marvel’s Most Acclaimed Writer Is STILL Criminally Underrated, & I’ll Tell You the 1 Reason Why
Marvel’s highest-profile writer has an ability to rile up fans like few others, and he uses this power to its fullest effect time and time again.
The Marvel Cosmic landscape has been stagnant in recent years, with lackluster Guardians of the Galaxy series, and no real depth to the Kree-Skull Empire after the events of Empyre. The only series that are currently dealing with the Marvel Cosmos, or Marvel Cosmology, are Phoenix and Storm, with Nova featuring in the former as an ally of Jean Grey. The ongoing X-Manhunt event has seen Charles Xavier’s daughter, Majestrix of the Shi’ar Xandra, threatened, who could be one of the eliminated galactic leaders that instigates Imperial. While this has not been confirmed, Hickman has said in the past that he pitched three series bibles to Marvel at the same time: House of X/Powers of X, G.O.D.S., and presumably Imperial, meaning he has been planning this expansive event for ages.
Imperial Will Greatly Impact The Future Of The Marvel Universe
The limited series will cause more ripples than G.O.D.S.
Jonathan Hickman recently wrote G.O.D.S., a limited series that revamped the cosmic hierarchy of power within the Marvel Universe, introducing new forms and plots for classic abstract entities like Eternity and Oblivion. While the ramifications of this series have been seen in comics like Storm, there has not been as large an impact on Marvel Comics as fans expected. Thankfully, Imperial will be more similar to Ultimate Universe, a self-contained limited series that begins the unfurling of an entire new line of epic space adventures:
IMPERIAL lays the foundation for an entire new landscape of interconnected space-set stories, making it the must-read comic book of the summer!
Countless talented writers have worked for Marvel Comics over the years, but Jonathan Hickman may just be the perfect creator to revamp a line of Marvel Cosmic comics, starting with the explosive Imperial, which debuts in less than three months!
