It has been months since Marvel teased the existence of an All-New Venom completely independent of the symbiote’s previous hosts. While Marvel and the series have been tactically placing teases and false leads to the host’s secret identity, nothing solid has been revealed yet. However, Marvel has finally revealed which comic issue readers will finally discover Venom’s identity as well the issue’s mysterious cover art.
In a post on X, Marvel Comics HQ revealed the cover image for All-New Venom #5 – written by Al Ewing, with art by Carlos Gómez – which promises to reveal the secret identity of Venom’s new host. While the comic series has presented four possible options, most fans aren’t really certain who it is.
Writer Al Ewing and
Marvel have slipped in false leads
already; the vague clues and overt yet useless hints have been meant to turn readers in every which way. There is a chance that an entirely different option is hidden underneath the alien goo.
Readers Are Still Divided On The Answer As Marvel Prepares To Unmask It’s New Version Of Venom
All-New Venom #5 – Written By Al Ewing; Art By Carlos Gómez; Main Cover Art By Adam Kubert & Frank D’Armata (Color)
The cover honestly has left readers more confused than they were before. So far, Marvel has given Madame Masque, Robbie Robertson, Luke Cage, and Rick Jones as
Venom’s four potential hosts
, but no concrete evidence has been provided for any option. As long as Marvel has tried to emphasize the mystery of Venom’s host, it’s become somewhat more exhaustive to try to crack the truth than it is to just wait and see. Issue #5’s cover art gives a brief glimpse of Venom’s host, only adding more confusion to the mix.

Nobody told me that the Venom symbiote was an Avenger! Yes, the symbiote itself, at one point, was one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Seriously.
Users on X left their guesses under the announcement, but are scattered and varied. A few users are certain it’s Rick Jones. Some believe
alternate choices like Iron Fist
or Ronin are secretly Venom. Surprisingly, there’s a non-significant number of people worried that Venom is going to be Mary Jane’s possessive boyfriend, Paul. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Marvel is being met with the excitement that the company should be looking for. Marvel first announced the series last August, leaving too much time for readers to speculate and without enough evidence to work with. Hopefully, the new host will be popular enough to return interest.
Marvel Has Teased Venom’s New Host Long Enough – Fans Are Starting To Get Impatient
Venom’s Identity Needs To Be Important
Venom, as a character, is in a very delicate place right now. Once again separated from the hosts he had been the closest to, Venom departed his family while on death’s door. His current run as a refreshed heroneeds to be a moment when the symbiote can stretch its wings. However, the more Marvel tries to make the host important, it risks taking away Venom’s importance. At the end of the day,
it’s a Venom comic
. Not an Eddie Brock or a Rick Jones or a Paul comic; it’s a Venom comic.
Readers don’t enjoy being left clueless as long as they have been without enough of a proactive story as a reward.
By waiting as long as Marvel has, Marvel threatens to steal the illustriousness of the mystery away from its readers. By constantly taunting the supposed suspense of the series, the fun of trying to keep up with it begins to fade.
