One Marvel character is officially credited as the main Wolverine as the world is threatened by a new supervillain team, and Logan has nothing to do with it. Parallel to Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, Marvel Comics unveiled the real title of its new Thunderbolts run, replacing the team’s name with The New Avengers — the eponymous name of Marvel’s new team of anti-heroes, led by Bucky Barnes a.k.a. the Winter Soldier and Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow.
As Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Doom continues his reign, the Winter Soldier and Black Widow reunite to fight a common enemy. Bucky and Natasha pick some of the deadliest heroes currently available, from Namor and Hulk to Carnage himself. However, before they get to recruit their whole team, Bucky and Natasha join forces with their first official teammate, Laura Kinney a.k.a. Wolverine, who Bucky describes as “the best there is at what she does.”
If it weren’t clear enough that Laura Kinney has surpassed her father’s threat level, Black Widow asks the Winter Soldier whether Laura is “better than him,” to which the Winter Soldier responds, “I didn’t call him, didn’t I?”. Indeed, the New Avengers won’t need Logan if they have Laura Kinney.

Laura Kinney makes a case for her skills by slicing through a squad of soldiers in the smoothest but most gruesome way possible, making Black Widow and the Winter Soldier’s fight moves look like child’s play. Immediately after, a flashback confirms Bucky Barnes picked Laura to be the team’s first recruit precisely because of her “bad impulses,” which Laura herself admits aren’t the kind of trait that traditional superhero teams are looking for. The fact that Bucky and Natasha address Laura on the same level as Namor speaks volumes about her power and skills.

There’s no doubt Laura Kinney has come a long way since her X-23 days. Her time training with the X-Men, the Avengers Academy, and the X-Force helped her hone her skills to become a superhero, and her dozens of battles as Wolverine have taught her how to handle dangerous situations with ease. Despite abandoning her Wolverine moniker for a while, Laura has easily reclaimed the mantle, and her New Avengers membership will certainly help her rival Logan’s long list of achievements.
The New Avengers Will Test Wolverine’s Teamwork Skills
Laura Kinney Is Following The Steps Of Her Father
Logan spent a long time being a one-man army before he joined the X-Men. After finding a family in Charles Xavier’s mutant team, Logan became a member of a wide variety of teams of superheroes and anti-heroes, including various iterations of the X-Force, the New Avengers, the Avengers Unity Division, Alpha Flight, and the Fantastic Four, among other squads. Laura Kinney hasn’t been as prominent in her respective teams, but The New Avengers #1 proves she’s making a name for herself as the Wolverine to reach out to when a team needs a deadly wildcard.
