WARNING! Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man #1
Spider-Man may appear to be invincible thanks to his handy powers and impressive strength, but believe it or not, his abilities do have a maximum threshold. After years of speculation, Spider-Man has officially confirmed the upper limit of his super-strength, giving a number of how many pounds he can lift before wears himself out.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, Marte Gracia, and Mario Menyz is set to kick off a new era for the titular Web-Slinger, and the preview for this monumental issue features an epic chase sequence between Rhino and Spider-Man himself.
As Spider-Man prepares to strike back at Rhino, he grabs a truck and smashes it over the villain’s head. As he does, he says via narration, “This is going to hurt. Top end of my spider-strength.” Trucks are therefore the heaviest thing that Spider-Man can carry, if this claim is to be believed.
Spider-Man Has Officially Confirmed the Upper Limit of His Super-Strength
Spider-Man Can Throw Trucks, But That’s the Most He Can Accomplish
Spider-Man can perform plenty of astonishing feats with ease thanks to his super-strength, but when faced with a truck, he acknowledges that lifting it will take a lot out of him. This may come as a surprise, since most heroes with super-strength could likely do the same without breaking a sweat. The truck in question appears to be a light-duty truck, which would weigh somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds depending on the cargo it contains. With those numbers in mind, it can be concluded that Peter Parker’s Spider-Man can only carry up to 10,000 pounds, give or take.

Out of Every Spider-Man Villain, There Is One Peter Knows Can Be Better
One of the greatest hopes for most superheroes is to redeem their villains, and there’s one Spider-Man antagonist Peter knows can be better.
It’s also worth noting that launching a truck at the Rhino leaves Spider-Man with a partially dislocated shoulder, indicating that even this limit is beyond what he can comfortably accomplish. At the end of the day, Spider-Man’s main power isn’t his super-strength, so it makes sense that it isn’t a foolproof ability that lets him toss heavy-duty vehicles around with ease. A powerhouse like Superman, who possesses seemingly infinite strength, could bat trucks away like flies if needed, while Spider-Man needs Ibuprofen after using his webbing to throw a single one at an opponent. That is, of course, if what Spider-Man says here is correct.
Spider-Man’s Strength Does Have a Limit, Though It May Not Be Trucks
Although Spider-Man appears to have established what the limitations of his strength are, there are reasons to doubt whether this claim is accurate to what he’s truly capable of. In The Amazing Spider-Man #365 by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley, for instance, Peter lifts Penn Station with more strength than would be required for a mere truck. While doing so, he even comments on how Thor would struggle to pull off this feat, hinting at him being beyond god-level in terms of his raw physical strength. Spider-Man could have been exaggerating, but his potential to surpass Thor hints at more power lying beneath his surface.
Spider-Man might be able to lift things that are heavier than trucks when he’s under enough pressure, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s sustainable for him to do so.
With that being said, adrenaline could be a factor in the varying depictions of Spider-Man’s physical prowess. He has famously lifted several tons of rubble through his sheer force of will, but that surge of power stems more from his own determination than from his regular capacity for strength. As such, Spider-Man might be able to lift things that are heavier than trucks when he’s under enough pressure, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s sustainable for him to do so. If a truck alone can dislocate his shoulder, then it might be best for him to lift things that are lighter than vehicles.

As Cool as Spidey’s Other Powers Are, His Strength Deserves More Love
The debate about Spider-Man’s actual limits could go on forever, much like most power-scaling debates within the comic community. At the end of the day, every writer has their own opinion on what a hero can or can’t do, and the result tends to be the option that fits the story being told. What really matters, more than calculations and measurements, is the fact that Peter’s strength is receiving the focus at all. Shooting webs and swinging around is great, but Spider-Man‘s physical might is also worth experimenting with, and it will be interesting to see how his new creative team showcases this overlooked power.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 will be available on April 9th, 2025 from Marvel Comics!
