Rise of the Powers of X

#2, on sale February 21 from Marvel Comics.

Professor X is officially outpacing Marvel’s most dangerous Dominion.

Rise of the Powers of X #2 finds the Dominion formerly known as Nathan Essex, now Enigma, following along through time and space as it watches the recent history of Charles Xavier unfold. Despite its omnipotent status, Enigma still cannot keep up with Xavier, as somewhere along the line on the ruined island of Krakoa, the mutant hero simply slips out of the seemingly divine entity’s sight entirely.

Spider-Man is Going to War With Doctor Octopus – Inside His Head

Spider-Man is taking on Doctor Octopus once more for control of his mind and body — on a battlefield both of them are very familiar with.

First appearing in the pages of 2019’s Powers of X #5 by writer Jonathan Hickman and artist R.B. Silva, Dominion is the designation given to various intelligent lifeforms that have ascended to an omnitemporal state. Existing both outside of space and time, Dominion is particularly concerning for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that they tend to arise from the evolution of overtly antagonistic artificial intelligence.

The Dominion has been glimpsed since as far back as 2022’s Immortal X-Men #8 by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Michele Bandini, and has even attracted the attention of super teams such as the Defenders. This sets the stage for the battle against Enigma to be a truly epic confrontation, as heroes from across every corner of the Marvel Universe are already honing in on the villain for themselves.

Marvel’s Night Thrasher is Still Reeling From His Own Death

The return of Marvel Comics’ 90s hero officially kicks off with the question of whether the titular Night Thrasher should even still exist.

Rather than attacking Enigma directly, Professor X and his few surviving mutant heroes of the not-so-distant future have decided to attempt to prevent its rise altogether. To that end, they have plotted to travel back in time and assassinate a young Moira MacTaggert before her mutant powers can emerge and set the stage for nearly a dozen devastating timelines. While this would presumably stop the rise of Enigma and numerous other villains, Professor X has already confirmed that it will also mean that Krakoa becoming an island nation for mutants will be prevented as well.

Rise of the Powers of X #2 is on sale February 21 now from Marvel Comics.
