Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Incredible Hulk #24! In both Marvel Comics and the MCU, the Hulk is one of the strongest heroes on the Avengers. However, that doesn’t mean he’s totally invulnerable to attacks from his fellow superheroes. In fact, the Avengers have proved many times that they are some of the Hulk’s greatest adversaries. Even the second issue of The Avengers showed the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes turn on the Hulk, and that’s something fans have seen many times in stories like Immortal Hulk and World War Hulk. And now, one of them has finally figured out how to beat the Hulk for good.

In The Incredible Hulk #24 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Kev Walker, Bruce Banner and his sidekick, Charlie Tidwell, are trying to find a way for Charlie to control her new powers. Charlie was possessed by the Mother of Skinwalkers, Lycana, who had given her the ability to transform into a flying wolf-like creature. In many ways, Charlie is exactly like Banner, as she also has another entity living inside of her that wreaks destruction whenever it’s unleashed. However, unlike the Hulk, Lycana is an evil monster. That’s why it’s imperative that Charlie learns how to control her powers, which leads them directly to Doctor Strange.

When Banner and Charlie get to the Sanctum Sanctorum, they’re surprised to see that Doctor Strange isn’t there. Instead, they are greeted by Clea, who agrees to help them learn how to control Charlie’s new powers. But, there is a catch. Clea tells Banner that he has to wait in a part of the Sanctum dubbed the Drawing Room, which isn’t a room at all, but a pocket dimension crafted by magic where gamma has no power. In other words, the Hulk cannot be unleashed in the Drawing Room.

Doctor Strange Has the Ultimate Anti-Hulk Weapon

Doctor Strange Revealed the One True Way to Defeat the Hulk For Good

As previously mentioned, the Avengers have proven themselves as some of the Hulk’s greatest adversaries. They’re always reluctant to fight the Hulk, as the Avengers recognize that he’s generally a good guy, but sometimes the Hulk’s threat-level outweighs his heroism. That’s why the Illuminati (consisting mostly of Avengers) decided the best course of action was to send the Hulk to another planet, leading to the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk storylines. But even long before then, the Avengers found themselves against the Hulk during the first arc of the comic series because he was deemed uncontrollable.

All-in-all, the Avengers have been against the Hulk on plenty of occasions, but they never had a way to actually take the Hulk down. Banishing him to another world didn’t work (as fans saw in World War Hulk), and the Avengers learned in The Immortal Hulk that even killing the Hulk doesn’t keep him down for long. Indeed, the Hulk is immortal, and can recover from literally any injury, as his ‘healing factor’ is supernatural in nature, and is linked to the otherworldly Below-Place. So, while the Avengers have oftentimes needed to take the Hulk down, they’ve never been able to. At least, until now.

Who in the Hulk? A Complete Guide to Every Hulk in the Marvel Universe

The Hulk is an immensely strong character in the Marvel Universe, and he is far from the only, as Marvel Comics is filled with ‘Hulks’ of all sorts.

The Avengers may not have found a permanent solution for the Hulk, but they’ve always been able to incapacitate him for a short time. And now, with Doctor Strange’s Drawing Room, they finally have a containment center capable of holding him, as it’s quite literally a pocket dimension where the Hulk has no power. If not for the interference of the Skinwalkers in this issue, Bruce Banner would have been trapped powerless in the Drawing Room possibly forever, which is great news for the Avengers the next time they decide the Hulk is too dangerous.

This ‘Anti-Hulk Weapon’ is WAY Better than Doctor Strange’s Original Method

Doctor Strange Used the Power of an Evil Demon to Fight Hulk in World War Hulk

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time Doctor Strange has had an anti-Hulk weapon. The first one was featured in the aforementioned World War Hulk storyline. That weapon was a literal demon named Zom whom Doctor Strange bonded with. Strange used the evil power of Zom to make himself strong enough to take down the Hulk, and it actually worked. While Zom’s corruption eventually left Doctor Strange vulnerable to Hulk’s attacks before their fight had concluded, Strange proved that this demonic upgrade was a fairly effective anti-Hulk weapon. However, it’s nowhere near as effective as the Drawing Room.

The Drawing Room is a pocket-dimension prison perfect for holding the Hulk, as gamma literally has no power there. Plus, without the Hulk, Banner is unable to escape the room, and if he dies in there, the Hulk will not be able to come back to life. It would be a pretty brutal and heartless thing for the Avengers to do to one of their own, especially if the MCU’s Doctor Strange also has a version of this Drawing Room, but it’s also the perfect anti-Hulk weapon to keep in their back pocket, just in case.
