Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for TVA #2Marvel Comics’ new TVA series is basically the MCU’s Loki Season 3 (which is very exciting). Taking advantage of the fact that the Time Variance Authority exists outside of time and space, the beloved cast of characters from Loki star in this new series alongside variant characters from the comics, continuing right where Loki season 2 left off with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki sacrificing himself to save the Sacred Timeline, becoming a new god to save those he cared about and maintaining multiple realities and their branches as a new multiversal tree. Now, new threats are emerging as dark secrets about the TVA are being uncovered.

Coming from writer Katharyn Blair (who was also a writer on Loki season 2) and artist Pere Peréz, TVA #2 further establishes the connectivity between this new series and the events of the MCU show. Inspired by Loki and his recent sacrifice, the TVA has recruited new variants to help maintain and protect various realities, especially as a new threat known as The Madness has struck across multiple branch timelines, making its victims hallucinate their worst fears and nightmares. Case in point, the field team’s investigation sees them running into none other than Sylvie, the female Loki variant played by Sophia Di Martino in the MCU:

Confirming that she’s since made it her business to know what’s happening at the new and improved TVA now run by B-15, Mobius, and O.B., Sylvie joins the team that includes variants of Spider-Gwen, Gambit, Jimmy Hudson aka Poison, Captain Carter, and a new TVA intern named Ingrid.

Marvel’s New TVA Series Connects Major MCU Characters and Events

Existing Outside of Time and Space Makes It Canon

All of Loki’s main characters are present in this new comic series (aside from Loki himself), and all of them share the same history as their live-action counterparts. For all intents and purposes, it’s been established that they’re the exact same characters who are now being depicted via a different medium. To that end, multiple references have already been made to the past events seen in Loki seasons 1 & 2, as well as the TVA’s MCU history in general.

For example, Mobius confirms that he spent time in various branch realities, just as Owen Wilson’s Mobius was left at the end of Loki Season 2. However, this new issue confirms that Mobius eventually came back, having determined that TVA was worth fighting for and protecting. That said, Mobius is also shown at the end of the issue having been stabbed by a hidden figure he thought might have been Loki himself.

It Took A Year, But I’m Convinced Marvel Just Subtly Set Up Loki’s MCU Return With The Perfect Response To His Ending

One year after Loki’s final appearance in a live-action MCU project, Marvel’s final release of 2024 just introduced the perfect path for him to return

References are also made to Mr. Paradox and his Time Ripper, the rogue TVA agent who served as one of Deadpool & Wolverine’s primary antagonists. New secrets about the TVA are also revealed from the days of He Who Remains. This includes the team’s discovery of a book about “celestial bureaucracies” and secret levels underneath the TVA’s R&D department (which was believed to be the bottom floor).

Is Marvel’s TVA Series What We’d See From A Loki Season 3?

(Either Way, I Love It)

The greater context and exciting connectivity to the MCU in Marvel’s new TVA series is lots of fun. However, it does make it seem likely that a true Loki season 3 isn’t in the cards from Marvel Studios. That said, getting a comic that continues the adventures of the MCU’s Time Variance Authority and the cast of Loki is certainly an exciting consolation prize. Featuring brand-new variants and classic faces from the MCU series, it’s going to be very exciting to see where Marvel’s TVA goes next (especially after such a major cliffhanger).

TVA #2 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
